Hi Mitchell! Sorry that seems a bit misleading, the unit DOES come with the batteries already installed and ready to go! After 3-5 years there is a replacement battery kit that includes those 12V batteries. Please reach out again with any additional questions.

The unit has a slot which takes the RDU101, but does not come with one.

Yes a few tech upgrades for the new gxt5 plus a 3 year warranty instead of the standard 2 year. Thank you.
