The New York Central System (NY) (Images of Rail)

Gone but not forgotten
I've been waiting for this addition to the Images of Rail series for some time, and I was not disappointed with the book. Of course, this book is out some 40 years after the Central ceased to exist and the core audience is not the hard-core NYC fan. That being noted, I enjoyed the story Mr. Leavy told, and I was very impressed with the photo selection. There are some great station interior shots, a lot of NYC employee images, and of course, plenty of streamlined steamers (I think he could have dropped a few of those in favor of a few other locomotive types). All things considered, he satisfied me as a New York Central fan, and distilled the railroad's heritage to a reader-friendly format for a new generation of historians or hobbyists.

This was a gift to a very 'died in the wool' train person, who grew up in New York State - - so it was greatly appreciated.

Very nice
Very informative. I enjoyed it. The pictures were exceptional. You found out what went on behind the scenes with the greedy people.

Good info
Book is actually a pictorial history that’s a bit light on detail. Still, it is interesting enough to get 5 stars and the pictures are a great look at history being made.

bel ouvrage
De très belles photos en particulier sur les streamliners même si j'aurai aimé davantage de photos sur les hudsons.

one of the great american railroads the streamlined hudsons racing up and down the water level route in there shimmering grey livery in the thirties and there demise in the late 40s due to the influx diesels just the ease of turning a key and ridding for ever of these great machines.,
