works as expected
This is a good minimalist survival tool. It weighs little, takes up little space and works as expected. Nothing fancy, it just works.

Welcome addition in my bugout bags
This ferro lighter/sparker is a welcome addition to my fire starter tools in my bugout bags .Yeah, matches do help, as would a dependable Zippo, but there are circumstances where ferro shines. It may be dark and wet, but with char cloth or its equivalent, this ferrro lighht will prove its merit.

Good value
At half the price as others sellers of the same product it's a great value. Works good too.

Big fat sparks, long lasting
This is a really great little kit - the ferro rod is nice and big, the aluminium handle has a waterproof storage capsule for some cotton wool and petroleum jelly tinder, and the dummy-corded striker actually works really well once the paint is worn off of it - also big enough to use with cold or hands. The other stuff in the kit is also really useful, and great added value. There is a collapsible blow pipe for providing O2 to your ember, and a small and shrill pea-less whistle with the morse code for SOS printed on the side for those who don't know it. This kit, a knife (or two) and a flashlight would make for a great minimalist EDC kit for rural/bush carry. The only real issues I have with this set are fairly minor - I was concerned about the way the ferrocerium rod attaches to the handle with a short section of it threaded to M8, but it seems many custom knifemakers are doing this now, and I couldn't find anything on the forums about this joint being a weak point on these rods - I may chase these threads a bit farther down the rod it get more purchase on the handle, just for my own peace of mind. I have always epoxied mine at least a half inch into whatever handle material I was using. The striker section has a little wrench section stamped out of it - I wouldn't put much faith in it taking any more torque than opening a beer, which is more likely it's intended purpose. Lastly, I think every painted surface here should be blaze orange, not gloss black, but I think orange is one of the color options, and would be a smarter choice for this type of gear.

Nice fire-starting kit with whistle
This kit is awesome. The rod throws a lot of sparks. In fact, I had a few land on my hand. Ouch! The trick to get the most sparks is to pull the rod towards you while holding the striker still. The rod is replaceable. I don't know if rods are universally replaceable with common sizes or do I buy only from this manufacturer?. The cord is of perfect length eliminating the need to separate the striker and rod which could result in losing one or the other. There is a storage compartment for tinder. The entire unit is very well made and machined. The included whistle is loud and works with very low volumes of air. Also included is a telescoping tube that helps to concentrate air on the fire. The entire kit is a great value and I'm glad to have this.

Ferro rod works well. Minimal effort and more sparks. Extra tools to complement the fire starter.
Excellent fire starter kit. The Ferro Rod works very well and I am able to get some spark with the least efforts and number of tries. The rod is good quality and it is supposed to last a long time. I like the pill box. It is a small storage capsule that can store small items such as matches. There is a retractable campfire bellow used to blow into the fire to keep it going. There is also a small metal multitool which has a map ruler, a wrench, and a bottle opener. I like all the tools in this kit. They are top quality and very useful, a good value.
