Lost in NYC: A Subway Adventure: A TOON Graphic

... bought this for my son after reading Jeet Heer's excellent biography of Francoise Mouly
I bought this for my son after reading Jeet Heer's excellent biography of Francoise Mouly, in which Heer describes Mouly's interest in children's comic books as a way to help struggling readers (and the resulting formation of the TOON books series). Since I have two struggling readers, I thought it was worth a shot. The book is beautiful and doesn't "talk down" to kids; it's full of interesting, specific information and the graphics are detailed and engaging. My 9 y/o who HATES to read sat down with this for his required 25 minutes of reading for homework, and didn't come up for air for an hour. He read it again the next night, and keeps telling me facts about the city. I hope this becomes a series.

A must for subway fans!
Wonderful book! Great for NYC Subway lovers. My son loves this book. Great graphics and good storyline. Wish they had more books with these characters.

Five stars from my son
I bought this book as a gift for my 11 years old son. He says five stars because he loves maps. I love the illustrations, but I wish the book had more words.

Great illustrations of subway - whiny main character
My son likes this book because it has such great descriptions and illustrations of the subway. However the main character is so negative and constantly complaining, that I skip half of what he says when I read it out loud. The story is about a kid who moves schools constantly and seems pretty depressed. I suppose if you have a kid dealing with that it could be relatable, but if you just want a book about the subway, it's pretty irritating.

Beautoful little story!
My 8 year old picked this out as a birthday present for his 10 year old brother who loves anything to do with the MTA system. They both enjoyed reading this book!!!
