Ensemble Stars: Part One [Blu-ray]
K**I
Watch Subbed, Rather than Dub.
I originally reviewed the Simuldub when it was released earlier this year, but I am here to review the physical copy. After waiting a long while for the anime to be physically released on Blu-Ray, I had half expected it to have a limited edition or a deluxe edition. We got neither of that from Funimation. All we got were regular blu-rays with just small illustrations of the blu-ray/dvd covers in Japan. Wow...not even a character booklet that introduces everyone. Nothing... it was disappointing. One of my main peeves about the simulcast sub was that they made subbing mistakes, and I was really hoping that they would at least fix it in the physical release. However, upon receiving my copy, and putting it straight away into my player...I skipped right to the areas that had the bad subs in the simulcast... no change... nothing... I was so upset. Why did I spent $50 on a blu-ray that didn't fix their subs? (Okay, so I bought it because I love the franchise). But this is so insulting to the anime, to the franchise for not fixing the subtitles.Izumi clearly says Yuu-kun, that is Yuuki Makoto's nickname. Instead, you had the subs just say "Yuu" and that is a big no-no!Don't get me started on the dub. Normally, I would be okay with dubs, but in recent years, ever since Funimation started doing simuldubs, their quality have gone down drastically. It's not even worth watching in dub. Especially since all the songs are in Japanese to begin with. Also, I wrote watch sub, rather than dub because quite frankly, the sub is still far more superior than the dub. (Funimation really needs to research the characters voices in Japanese to know how they act, and how they talk.)I am praying, and hoping that Funimation will fix the biggest sub mistake in the second half. By biggest mistake, during Episode 22 (Star Fes Episode), Subaru was dreaming about Daikichi (his dog's name). He said, "What's up? Daikichi" but instead...Funimation translated it with "What's with the Good Luck?" Yeah, yeah.. Daikichi means good luck, but his dog's name is Daikichi. I've been playing this game since 2015, and I know way more than all those people at Funimation.Another thing to note... this anime is really hard for someone who doesn't know the franchise. The main storyline is about maybe 12 episodes long, and after that it's all stuff that were in events in the game. You need to understand each character, know who they are, what their relationships are before even diving into this series without playing the game.I would write more, but this is already long enough. I will be back do review the second half (if they do or don't fix the major sub mistake in the physical copy.)
