Sturdy and easy to use!
I just installed and used this bike rack for the first time today and I was very pleased. It was very easy to install and take off to store in the trunk while I was riding. After my ride, I quickly installed it again and off I went.Initially, I was very cautious to use a bike rack on my car at all, a 1996 Jaguar. I did check the Saris website and made sure my vehicle was compatible with this model. My car was recently painted last month and the padding on the rack was nice and thick and left no marks, the clasps that attach to the trunk were coated and left no marks. I have a very light Italian racing bike I bought in the 1980's and there was no problem with the sturdiness of this rack. I have no plans to put 2 bikes on this rack and can just say for 1 bike it performed like a champ.Update: After securing my bike's handlebar to the rack, my bike doesn't sway forward and backward anymore, especially with braking and accelerating. I have now also taken it out on the freeway and it worked great. At no time did I think the rack would fall off or the bike would come off. It was very secure and I am happy to be able to travel easily with my bike to ride in other areas.

Solid Rack, Really 3.5 stars
I really bought this to take 3 bikes to a marathon about an hour away from my house, then to use subsequently to cart two bikes around so my boyfriend and I could ride on trails outside of the city. This bike has multpile major pros and some typically cons that I found in reviews of almost every other bike rack.Pros:It was very sturdy. I initially put this on my car the day before the trip so that it would "settle" into place a bit. The next day I found that it had not loosened at all. We put the bikes on it (managed 2) and retightned it after that. It nicely made it the 50 mile trip and the 50 miles back without being retightened. It also withstood constant 15-25 mph wind on the trip back. This rack does not requiring tightening any bolts that may strip. It has two cinch pins that are used to lock the rack into 1 of three positions. It's inexpensive. If I were not a graduate student with limited money I probably would have went for the Bones model. However, this one proved to be a good choice at about 1/3 of the cost.It left no marks on my car, although I'm not sure if it would have weathered as well for a much longer trip. Regardless, I wouldn't leave it on the car for day-in day-out driving. It's easy to install. Once you unpack it and follow the instructions to get it on once it's really easy to use.It fit over my spoiler (2009 Hyundai Elantra). It did not hinder my ability to open my trunk.Cons:It rests on my license plate. The instructions are hard to follow. The instructions suggest that you use the rack at an angle that is as close to 90 degrees as possible. For my car this meant that it had to be placed on the third cinch pin setting, leaving the shortest amount of space for bikes. I'm not sure that we would have been able to fit all 3 bikes on it with the pedals and handlebars on.We did not fit all 3 bikes on it, mainly because we could not figure out how to fit mine onto it. (I ride a women's Schwinn world sport.) This, however, would have been a problem on any bike rack it seems. We also didn't trouble shoot it for too long and rather popped the front wheel off and stuck the bike in my trunk.Anyhow, if you're on a budget and looking for a rack for short to moderate distances. It also seemed like it would certainly hold up for longer distances, especially if one were to stop every so often and check the straps.

Terrible quality
First of all I must say that since I take very good care of my car and my bike I would never normally use a rack like this, since it's guaranteed to do SOME damage to both. I ALWAYS carry my bike inside the car wrapped up in old bedsheets. However, I had to move to a different state and I had to take five bikes with me on a 1200 mile drive so I had no other option. Also since I'm temporarily here in the States and I bought a used car with some dents to begin with I didn't care about the paint job that much. I carried my two racing bikes (one is worth more than the car) inside the car and carried 3 cheap ones outside. I put on the rack first for a short drive with 3 bikes just to test it - even then the base of one the plastic straps cracked a little, but I thought it would be OK.Then finally the night before our move arrived and I started installing the bikes in freezing cold. That might have been one of the factors since the plastic became very rigid. As I was sliding the bikes on the arms, the plastic straps broke, one after the other. In the end 4 of the 6 broke off! And I didn't do anything stupid. Like I said I always pay attention to any objects I work with, trying to conserve its present state, I was being careful and did not use excessive force. So there I was with 2 straps left with 3 bikes and only a few hours before our start. So I used plenty of duct tape, bungee cords and strings to secure the bikes. In the end they made it safely, so actually I could have given two stars, but back then I was so upset that I stick with the one. I never expect any bells and whistles from a product, just simply to perform its basic function. But THAT it must do. And this rack does NOT. I wonder how so many people gave good reviews about it. Maybe they used it in the summer, when the plastic is softer and doesn't break. But then they should put a warning on it saying not to use it below 30 degrees.Anyway it's supposed to have a lifetime warranty (whoah!). I'll see how that works out.My recommendation: buy something better.

portabici
il prodotto è sicuramente robusto ma nonostante le istruzioni sembrassero compatibili con la mia auto non posso utilizzarlo su una Fiesta.

TWO Stars
My bike was not very secure on rack bike was moving around it look like the bike was going to fall off. The brackets on the rack are too small and not wide enough for the cross bar on the bike. I would not recommend is rack pay a few bucks more for a better one.
