We ordered this collection as part of a Valentine's card gift idea for my 5 year- he chose a special gem stone for each friend in his class and we slipped it into a little velvet bag with the name of the stone. The identification booklet made this fun & easy to do- the images were great and allowed my son to match the gem with the name. While he signed the "mine cart" valentine, I read to him the description of the stone and the little fun facts. The quality of the stones, the packaging and the booklet make this collection a perfect gift for one or to share with others! I found myself already thinking of HOW I could buy another one!! I am impressed with this collection. My granddaughter has been collecting rocks since she was 2. So I decided to purchase this for her birthday. I was even more excited about the book because it identifies and explains the origin of the rocks. And even though the book is small, the pics are big and of good quality. Everything fits into the box for safe keeping. Great value for the price.

I purchased these for my Granddaughter who has shown a fascination with rock collecting. I bought her a rock tumbler last year and she loves it so I figured she might enjoy this set with the booklet describing the stones that accompanied the set. I am pleased with the quality of the selection that was sent and will most likely continue to add to her collection over the years.

What a great gift idea for little ones! All the rocks came in perfect condition and were gorgeous. My child also enjoyed reading the book. Love it!

My 8 year old grandson said this was the best birthday present EVER! The rocks were the perfect size, the protective bags were attractive and very nicely made, and the book was right on his level--easy to understand, but not childish. The set would be great for any age. The smallest rock was about 3/4" long. It was a crystal, which he recognized immediately. He knows crystals are "special" (Minecraft says so). He recognized obsidian, the 3" long arrowhead. He also knew how obsidian was made, because he'd learned it in Minecraft He recognized a couple of other rocks before he even cracked the book! In other words, our video-playing grandson is quickly becoming a rock hound, and he was so happy with his gift.

I bought this set for my 5-year-old son, as he is going through the "rock and dinosaur" phase. As a geologist myself, I truly appreciate the quality and variety of rocks included. My son loves to pick a rock and try to identify it using the book. Not every rock/mineral in the book will be in the set so he actually has to pay attention. He has started picking out rocks in the book that he wants next. This is a great starter kit for anyone or even a great way to add to your existing collection. Would recommend to anyone.

The rocks are actually very pretty as a small example of their identity. But I was going to give them as a gift to a child, but found the obsidian arrowheas to be extremely sharp and dangerous for a child to play with. I do know that it is important though to understand the importance of obsidian to the Mayas for knives and other weapons for hunting and war.

It arrived on time....pieces were smaller than expected and didn't have much 'presentation'....but a quick stop at a Dollar Store and some cut up 'soft cloth' and, presto, we had the beginnings of a rock collection! Our 6 year old granddaughter was thrilled with it all and has memorized lots of information about rocks...Grandpa went up 6 notches on the hierarchy! :-). .Next step is some more excuses for 'field work' and purchasing the National Geographic Geode Kit for her birthday. Boo Yah!

Received this product today as a gift for my 10yr old niece. I am impressed with the quality and size of the stones. I bought a stone only a bit bigger at the Xmas markets and paid £4.50. This is really good value whether a gift or for yourself. They come in two little pull string bags and you get a little booklet explaining them (and more). Would recommend the seller too as it arrived with no issues.

This is a great little kit with some beautiful and interesting pieces. My daughter especially liked playing with the lodestone and iron filings! Was delivered the next day and well packaged. The included book gives just enough detail on each piece without being too overwhelming for a 9 year old, and we really enjoyed using it to identify them. She now cant wait to go back to school and 'show and tell' her new collection!
