Product Description Bascom Lamar Lundsford started the first bluegrass and mountain folk music festival in 1929. He was also a superb mountain musician. Lunsford recorded 100s of mountain songs for the Smithsonian. This very early synch sound film tells the story of his life and times and presents an amazing variety of songs, performers, and performances along the way. For most of the program, Lunsford is on the road introducing backcountry pickers, singers and clog dancers to the filmmakers. It includes music performed by some of the best, (including Mountain Dew, which Lundsford wrote), clog and square dancing never before seen and very early archival footage from Southern Mountains musicians, as well as Bluegrass and Mountain music legends like Obray Ramsey (banjo), Artus Moser, Mike Seeger, Alan Lomax, Tommy Hunter (fiddle), Roger Sprung (banjo), " Red" Raper, and Ray Lundsford. Review "They say that Lunsford would cross hell on a rotten rail for a good song." -- Bill Morrison, The News and Observer, Raleigh North Carolina.Lundsford would cross hell on a rotten rail for a good song. This film captures him and the great songs. -- Bill Morrison, The News and Observer, Raleigh North Carolina.

Great Reading
If you're interested in the history of Bluegrass and the Appalachian people, you should love this book. Five stars as far as I'm concerned.

A must have for any fan of traditional mountain music
This film shows a little taste of the overwhelming work Bascom Lunsford did to keep traditional Appalachian Music alive. I am a 7th generation mountain musician from the hills of Virginia and I will forever be grateful to this man`s effort and dedication to our music. If you love the real country music then this DVD is for you.
