I am overjoyed to now own this book in this condition and ...
The book was exactly as described and arrived even earlier than promised. It was packaged with extreme care and there was no way the fragile, old book could have been damaged in transit. I have been looking to buy this book for years, but this was the first one that I found within my budget. I am overjoyed to now own this book in this condition and very pleased to have found a seller with a reasonable price point. Would highly recommend this seller to anyone! For the content of the book itself, it is exactly as expected. My husband and I are both Architects, so to own a first edition Architectural Graphic Standards is something that we get giddy about. It is full of historic, architectural detailing all beautifully hand-drawn. If you work on historic buildings or just want to see traditional building techniques and details, it is a great book to add to your collection.

If the price is right, it's perfect for students.
Through 3 years I had this book while in school, it was an invaluable resource. As many of you know, the work done in arch. school is very design/idea based, and not necessarily rooted in a feasible final product. However, I strived to include as many true-to-life elements in my design, and this book got it done for me. Many standards and sizes, etc. that had my classmates scrambling around on the internet or looking through dozens of books to find were easily found in the index of this book. It eventually became a class resource for a couple semesters until people bought their own.As a professional, many people's firms have a specialty or three. For instance, I work for a healthcare firm at the moment. However, as a student, you can run the whole gamut of different building types. Despite how far-out some of my designs were, the fact that they were rooted in current, workable building methods and systems that were detailed out helped me immensely when applying for jobs. Knowing the details and showing them in your design is not only good for your reputation, but good for ability as an architect.I'd recommend this to many arch students if the price is right for you. I happened upon it at a time with the book (no CD) was around $80 or $90. Of the dozens of textbooks I still have, this is one resource book I know I'll be consulting for a while.

So much information in one book
I started my career referring to this edition over 30 years ago. Sure some of the info is out of date, but it remains one of the best reference books I own. I am really happy I was able to find the same edition. The book is only slightly used. It is in better shape than the one I used so many years ago. I might purchase a newer version to add to my library.

Very Valuable
I've heard a lot of talk about how the new editions aren't as good as the old. So I picked up the old. Although it's important to have other references, this book belongs on the shelf of every designer.

Regarding 1934 reprint of 1st edition: good resource
This is an excellent resource for anyone looking to understand traditional building materials and methods. The printing is excellent. The actual plates from the original work are valuable not only for the technical information they contain, but the artistry with which they were composed is superb. If you already have a copy of the 2nd or 3rd edition (perhaps even 4th?, but I only have seen the former), this book is superfluous. The material contained herein is essentially the same and in the next two additions. If you can find a copy of the 3rd edition, I would recommend that to anyone looking for an old Architectural Graphics Standards, as it contains some additional information.About the contents: This book is particularly useful regarding masonry construction, including terra-cotta facades. It also shows traditional woodwork details, but only to the extent that the modern AGS editions do--that is to say, there is something to be desired. If that is your interest, there are numerous other books on that subject available on Amazon (just search for them).

It's the Architect's Bible
as I was told in Architecture class, and he was right. I still use it regularly despite having left the architecture/engineering world, for planning things in my personal house.

A fantastic reference tool
This is such a handy reference! As a builder it nice to have one place to find a "standard" by which to work around and it's a book so it's easy to mark the page and show a client or a sub while having a discussion.
