very good quality, great upgrade for old Mad Catz SE stick
I dusted off my old Mad Catz SF4 SE arcade stick for SF6, and I don't know if it was always terrible or had just deteriorated with age, but I was struggling to pull of specials let alone supers so decided to upgrade to official parts. The packaging has a sticker saying "Made in China" with a QR code pointing to some site claiming they have to add that to comply with US customs. Everything is smushed into a tiny box that I was unable to fit the old parts into afterwards, but the buttons all have film to prevent scratching the surface and the knob and stick are wrapped separately. No bent pins or anything.I don't have enough experience with Sanwa parts to know if these are fakes, but if they are then they are extremely good quality. Sanwa embossed in all the correct places and consistent feel to all the springs and microswitches. Significantly better than the cheapo clones Mad Catz put in the SE stick.I did have an issue with one direction not working at first, but on closer inspection of the old stick it seems the pins were longer and connector wasn't making tight contact on that one. I squished the crimp with a knife and everything was hunky-dory afterwards. The stick comes with a better quality cable and connector, but the end that goes into the board would need soldering or crimping into a new connector, so I just stuck with the crappy Mad Catz one until I get around to upgrading the board. The product description implies that the stick can be switched between 4 and 8 way, but unless I'm missing something it just means you have the option to put an 8-way gate on there but it is not included. Now I'm pulling off supers as consistently as I was doing specials before and can confidently say it's purely a skill issue. Very happy with the parts.

Williams Defender Flight Panel
Williams Defender was my favourite arcade game in 1982 and I wanted to recreate the experience. Emulators are available for modern computers but it's just not the same on the keyboard. It's far too difficult to keep your fingers over the correct keys when things get frantic, as they always do in defender. So I built a Williams Defender joystick with this kit and a panel I found on ebay and a Raspberry PI Pico. The result is amazing, fantastic and excellent as I would have said 40 odd years ago. The Sanwa joystick and buttons are even more responsive than the original arcade machine. I still have the reflexes learned in collage when I should have been studying A level maths. Although my high scores are not what they were. There are resources online for turning a Raspberry Pico into a USB joystick (GP2040). There are resources for turning a Raspberry PI into an arcade machine (RetroPI) or even a Tandy CoCo3.This is a relatively easy project and very rewarding. Go for it.
