Only wood grain on the top surface
Purchased, NOT received in exchange for our review.Our fault for not catching the "MDF" in the listing and for not examining the photos more closely. These only have woodgrain on the top, so the sides are MDF with some kind of finish (paint?) around the edges.We only recommend them if you plan on decorating (painting or wrapping) all 5 sides (front & edges). If not, you'll be disappointed. The edges are not natural wood grain and not attractive if left as is, and not suitable for staining like real wood.

These are MDF blocks, not wood
As in the title, these are MDF (compressed sawdust), not wood. This did the job in a pinch but lacks any quality grain or texture for carving or engraving.
