Colin Dexter Boxset (Special Sales) Paperback – January 1, 2002

I was very satisfied of the products bought.

First, this collection came complete and every book is in excellent condition. What I like most is the cover of every book is different; not just different photos as one would expect in a "collection", but different in as if I had purchased each book individually upon their release. These books fit well in my bookcase along with my other hard to find used books.I'm going to have a ball reading all 14 of these books! Thank you Second Editions Bookshop for providing me with a great collection of books I didn't have to spend hours in a used bookstore (which I miss, but are almost obsolete now) hunting up.

We got a taste for Inspector Morse from watching the show on the BBC. The books are even better than the shows. Excellent writing, good stories. It's too bad he passed away. We lost a truly great detective novelist when he did. He'll be missed.

Like most readers, I got to know Morse through the series on PBS. I confess I can't read the novels without seeing John Thaw and Kevin Whately in my mind. But they were so perfectly cast--and such great actors--that it's an enhancement. Dexter is an expert plotter and a brilliant stylist, able to give vivid life even to the minor characters. And it's fascinating to note the ways in which the TV writers changed and in most cases simplified the stories--something any movie or TV adapter has to do. So--if you love the Morse series on TV--read the books too. The novels enhance your appreciation of the TV series, and vice versa.

As you can see there are other reviewers who love Colin Dexter's books. In fact his story lines are well thought out with good plot themes. What I didn't care for was that the good guy - inspector Morse seemed a bit dull particularly as relates to his life away from his job.If you like dry British humor you will likely love these books. To put this in perspective I prefer Robert Parker, Raymond Chandler, Ross MacDonald and Sue Grafton.

This set was just what I was looking for after getting hooked on "ENDEAVOR" the PBS series and it finished its ninth season. I had to see where that series came from. Very well written. The only minor thing was that they didn't come in order in the package, so I looked in the inside cover to see the correct order. Very good mystery series.

Excellent shipping and excellent set of books. Colin Dexter is hard to find so I was very pleased to find the complete collection. A reader must understand the British writing style, humor, character development and choice of words to fully appreciate British authors. I have been reading them for 50 years and Colin Dexter (along with Dick Francis) are outstanding. (Having lived in Europe for 7 years gave me some insight).

It wasn't an issue for me, but the generic image showed the anthology included in the set, but it was not in the set from the vendor I chose. Caveat emptor! Read the vendor's specifics. I am enjoying this set from the British publisher.

Just received the box set of 14 Inspector Morse mysteries. Its a Christmas present from myself to myself but it will be difficult to resist the temptation to start the first book before the great day. The set arrived on time and well packaged and contained all 14 books. This is outstanding value and I am well pleased.

Yes this is a set of books but not a box set, it did not come in a box as suggested by the advert although I admit it does not show a box in the advert.
