Beautiful Chaos: Beautiful Creatures, Book 3

Best In Series So Far!
Lena broke the world on her seventeenth moon. Instead of choosing Light or Dark, which would have resulted in the death of any family members who belonged to the side she didn't choose, Lena chose both. By embracing both Light and Dark, she has thrown the natural order of things out of sync. Not only are her creepy Incubus ancestors trying to take advantage of the chaos and create their own ideal world, but the town of Gatlin and everyone she loves in it is in danger. The Linkubus isn't the only thing Gatlin has to fear... Abraham Ravenwood has joined with Lena's evil Caster mother to find John Breed- the hybrid Incubus who can walk in the sunlight and is the future for Abraham and the other evil creatures. They know Lena, Ethan, and Macon are somehow involved in hiding him, but they have no idea where he is. Add to that newly-mortal Ridley's craziness now that she is no longer a Siren and you have quite the disaster. Then Abraham lets loose the Vexes who take down the Sisters' (Ethan's ancient aunts) house with a tornado and puts Aunt Prue in a coma, he knows something has to be done. But the snippets of the song about "The Eighteenth Moon" are not only terrifying, they are incredibly cryptic.Meanwhile, they find Ridley has been holding John Breed prisoner in her room and using him to Cast. While Ethan wants to kill him for turning Link and almost destroying Lena, he realizes John is as innocent as they all are in the mess that has become Gatlin. Abraham has abused and controlled John since he was a child and John doesn't even remember hurting Link. Together, they all struggle to make sense of what is happened and how to change it back. Unfortunately, the sacrifice that must be paid is one no one is ready for. This was the best installment of this series so far. I like the other two books as well, but this one was really good. I couldn't put it down, all 500 pages of it. Since we saw Ethan and Lena so separated last book, it was nice to see them back together. But the supporting characters were better, as seems to be fairly standard with this series. Link was a riot as usual, and it was funny watching him try to deal with his new found powers. Ridley has a lot of trouble coping with her new standing as a mortal, but I love her relationship with Link (as tumultuous as it is). But Amma and John Breed were really interesting here. Amma, always protective of Ethan, will go to any lengths to protect him- even if it means a sacrifice Ethan would never let her pay. And John, who you hated in the last book, you find yourself sympathizing with. He really never experienced any childhood or family; you really find yourself wanting to like him. This was a great follow up story and makes me anxious for the final book in the series this fall. I can't imagine where everything is going to go with the final story, but I know I can't wait to read it!

Make sure you have LOTS of tissue when you read this one.
That was the most beautiful, sweetest, heartbreaking book I've read in a long time. It was better than the first and second books combined and THANK GOD there is a 4th book or I would continue to be the blubbering mess I am right now.For the uninitated, you have to read the first 2 books or this one will not make sense at all. For those of you in love with Ethan and Lena, Link and Liv, Amma and Marian and even Ridley, this book will be your favorite. It packs it's pages full of better character development and interaction; the action is tension-filled and the quiet moments between Ethan and Lena are the sweetest ever.Lena is not the moody stranger she was in Beautiful Darkness, she is more involved in the story, not just the elusive Caster breaking Ethan's heart over and over again. Link is not just a goofball best friend now, he's a hunky goofball best friend with powers. And Ridley is still breaking his heart over and over again. John Breed returns and I'm still not sure what I think of that guy by the end. Amma is more fragile this time; she shows her softer, more emotional side. Liv is still the best, she misses her friend Ethan and there is the greatest scene between her and Lena. Go Liv!And Ethan is still the most sensitive, most loving teenage boy that ever existed (when he was describing how he would hug and smell his mother's pillow after her death, I was bawling). But this time, he is darker, he's changing, something is wrong with him. He feels it, he knows it. We all know it and we see it coming. The evil characters are still there, but it's the good guys that make the book so enjoyable for me. It's a beautiful book, I highly recommend it to those who read the first 2 books. Just make sure you have tons of tissue. And it leaves you with the biggest cliffhanger ever.

Review for Beautiful Chaos by Kami Garcia & Margaret Stohl
Ethan Wate's life is never going to be normal. He and Lena return home to find things are stranger in Gatlin than when they left. Apparently Lena broke things a bit when she refused to choose a side and now everything has gone pear-shaped. And even worse, Ethan is being haunted both in dreams and in real life and he's slowly losing himself. The gang needs to get things together and quick because the wheel of fate is going to crush them all if they don't make things right.I'm at a bit of a loss for what to say here. We get the same cast that we had in the previous novels, with more of John Breed and Olivia. They are on a journey to set the order of things straight again since Lena messed them up when she "skipped" her moon. I still love Ethan and Lena and their relationship, but it's far from perfect and that shows here more than ever. Ethan spent much of the last book with Olivia because Lena ran off with John and now he isn't allowed to see her because it upsets Lena. So we have this sorta-not-really love triangle thing happening that irritated me to no end. But Lena has no qualms talked to John Breed even though it's the exact same situation as Ethan and Liv. Which pissed me off. Then the predictable thing happens. Then there is the whole Link and Ridley situation in general. Rid is human now and Link is quarter incubus, so you'd think the majority of the problems are solved, right? Rid can be good and Link can be her almost human boyfriend and they ride off into the proverbial sunset, yeah? Or not...... Is that too much to ask? To have Link and Ridley finally get their crap together. Or rather, to have Ridley finally get her crap together? This was a big forshadowing moment in my lifetime that I missed because from this point on, my opinion of Ridley just sinks lower and lower. That's a depressing thing because I really liked her in Beautiful Creatures, despite the fact that she was a quasi-villain and she redeems herself a tad in Beautiful Redemption...but then she falls again and I just want to punch her in the freaking face.Besides my obvious hangups about characters, this novel has one big issues, the huge motherf-ing cliffhanger. This books ends in quite possibly the worst cliffhanger I have ever read. Now, I know what you are all thinking: But Tabitha, don't you already have a copy of the next book? Isn't the audiobook queued up just waiting on this to end? Yes, it is, but it's the darn principle. I know a lot of people read these books as soon as they were released and I cannot imagine having to wait for a year or more to find out what happens next. This is not freaking necessary. It's infuriating. I've been letting cliffhangers slide lately, but this was over the line.Despite my anger and my issues, this was still a highly enjoyable installment of the Caster Chronicles. You get a bit of mystery and a bit of action and a lot of Ethan/Lena romance. You get more of that swoon-worhty southern charm that is Ethan Wate. Just be warned that you'll want to have the next novel close on hand because the ending leaves a lot to be desired.
