Just too good
There are not many authors who can pull off first person writing at all, much less do it so well that the pages just keep on turning. Jim Butcher is the best in the business. Having first read Butcher through his Spider-Man novel, I was impressed beyond words at how well he wrote in first person. After that experience, I finally got around to starting his Dresden Files series. I lament that I waited so long. There's nothing to take away from these novels. The characterizations leap off the page, with the descriptions and narration never failing to keep the reader interested. The ignorance of the main character of what might be occurring off stage is so well-done that it is difficult to stop reading for breaks of any length. Truly, Jim Butcher is a master. The tales of Harry Dresden, a wizard/private investigator, are good beyond compare. In all aspects, from the story to the characters to the dialogue to the settings to the supernatural aspects to the fallibility and humanity of Dresden himself, these books belong on the shelf of any reader of fantasy, horror, or science fiction. And considering that the box set basically makes it 3 for the price of 2, you really cannot go wrong. Buy these books!

An excellent introduction to the Dresden Files
I bought these on a whim, having heard of some of the awesomeness of the Dresden Files from [...]. I was not disappointed! Includes the first three books in the Dresden Files (currently 12 books long), Storm Front, Fool Moon, and Grave Peril. The books are pretty fast-paced, lots of action, cultural references, snarkiness and usually one or two climatic magic and gun-slinging brawls. In Storm Front, we meet protagonist Harry Dresden, private investigator wizard in Chicago investigating the supernatural, finding lost objects and people, and helping out Lieutenant Karrin Murphy of the Chicago PD's SI (special investigations) unit with weird cases. We also are introduced to girlfriend/reporter Susan Rodriguez, crime lord Marcone, Bob the Skull (an expy of Morte from Planescape), and Morgan and the White Council. In Fool Moon, we get every variety of werewolf possible as a series of grisly murders hit Chicago. Grave Peril really kicks off the rest of the series, introducing recurring characters Michael Carpenter, Knight of the Cross, and Thomas Raith, White Court vampire, as the beginning of a 10-book story arc with the Red Court of vampires. While not my favorites in the series, (hence the 4 stars, it really picks up the pace with book 4, Summer Knight), these are a great introduction to the rich and detailed world of the Dresden Files. Highly recommended. The box set came with a pretty nifty poster as well!

Excellent Adult Alternative to Harry Potter
This series is absolutely excellent. This set contains the first three books in the Harry Dresden series. If you are an adult that liked the idea, but not the kid drama, invovled in Harry Potter, then you will love The Dresden Files. There is almost no dressing up the fact that this series has it all: sci- fi fans love it! Harry Dresden is not a super showy wizard, and there are no cutesy effects that the kids who read Harry Potter enjoy. This is magic at its basics, no extra flairs but plenty of plot and story to want any reader to continue reading the series.

Three-in-one!
If you are a huge Dresden fanatic like me, then you may also have completely worn out your paperback copies of Storm Front and Fool Moon....This hardback book contains the first 3 books of the Dresden Files series, complete and unabridged. If you were going on a long trip, and knew you were going to need your Dresden fix, this allows you to have 3 stories, and not have to pack 3 books. The Dresden Files are hilarious and entertaining, and cram packed with suspense and excitement. I love Harry Dresden. Thank you Jim Butcher!
