Great device, especially if you have other Garmin kit
Having owned many Garmin devices in the past, this is the first Edge device I’ve bought.I got fed up of having to risk crashing to look at my Garmin watch while cycling. So now I have both, one for the gym and general wear and one for cycling. In short, I love it. It’s a fantastic device!I’ve seen early reviews mentioning crashes and faulty buttons. It appears there may have been a problem with the first batch of devices. Mine works flawlessly but I had to wait for stock to get mine and now have what I suspect is a new batch of devices. It’s smart looking, has great features, is useable without being to large and easy to operate. It also works perfectly for off road cycling which is the main use I have it for.The maps that come with it are good, but I’ve added my own to improve it with better detail on the off road paths, routes and trails. Two minute job.It paired in seconds with my cadence sensor, speed sensor and my watch. I also have a chest strap, again paired no issue, but if you don’t you can use your Garmin watch to send HR data to the edge device.I love the display. It displays data in a much nicer way than my Fenix 5. There are graphic options and up to 10 fields. Spot on. It also benefits from connect IQ so you can easily customise it.There’s a profile for each type of cycling too. Ideal if you use different bikes. And this also now connects to Bluetooth as well as Ant+.I like the alert system too being an off road rider. If I crash and don’t stop it, it will text my chosen contacts my location and tell them I need help. Awesome feature. As is the live track should I chose to enable it so they can see where I am at any time.Extended display is great - basically mirrors what’s on your watch if you choose to do so.And for people who own other Garmin devices like myself, it supports ‘true up’. This means that devices talk to each other to share workout and other data. So you don’t get duplicate activities.I also love that my Garmin scales update this device with my weight so it has a better chance of giving me closer details on my workouts.I nearly went for the 830, but realised this is the same device minus a touch screen and door to door routing effectively. I don’t need either of those so I spent less and got this. Every other feature is the same.I’ve also added a Garmin remote to my handlebars. I can change the display while cycling with my thumb without remove my hands from the grips. All in all, a great device. And highly recommended.

A North America unit with North America maps installed.
Comes with maps - but of North America! They need to be removed to allow space to add the maps you need here in the UK - So, I decided to return it - which is full of problems as you are faced with re-exporting the unit back to the USA.
