"My Lord"
Barbara McQueen's "Steve McQueen: The Last Mile ... Revisited," is as personal an eye-witness as one can get of McQueen's last days. Assisting Mrs. McQueen, co-author Marshall Terrill's support is so shadowed as to leave him nearly invisible. Well done, sir. She's a good lady, living in a tough world. At an early age she gained world-wide fame and fortune, and that was only the beginning. When a widow is asked to remember her husband, an international mega-star who in his own private life is a mega-person, the challenges are terrific to say the least.Compound that with having met him on equal ground, having attained your own recognition as a world-class model burgeoning into a super star within months of your first shoot, after he has sought you out from simply seeing you in a magazine ad.Steve had Barbara in time and grade, but that was all.Looking back on those crowded three plus years would have been even more difficult knowing you had boxes of photos of the 'Hollywood Icon' stashed away, collecting nothing more than dust.Amazingly, books, articles, and even documentaries and films, continue to follow after the shadow of a poor mid-west boy who gained the world and then turned away to find his soul.Joining him in those heady days, the unknown tragedy obscured in the future mists, looking back to recount them would be bitter-sweet indeed.Only love would manufacture the fortitude to even begin such a project. Only love would finish it.A personal hobby of photo-taking, developing into a secret desire to one day become a professional photographer, found it's true purpose in chronicling some of the happiest, most fulfilling times of what would become Steve McQueen's final days on this earth. A journey in retrospect that would appear as the last mile.Yet, like all really good, worthwhile stories, this one reveals a deeper, richer tale that weaves from a Vacation Bible School certificate to a dying brother in the Lord encouraging a world-famous Evangelist with these words, "Billy, all my life I have felt like I was running away, and now I feel like I've turned around and am walking home."These were the words noted in a previous McQueen biography, "The Final Chapter," written by Grady Ragsdale, which also includes Steve's turn to Jesus.Barbara's stirring pictorial of what would become Steve's final days and years only leaves one hungering for more.Even to eavesdrop on the conversations of that last mile, a walk that began with two people meeting in a Hollywood Hotel for a 'working' lunch.More so are some of his last recorded words, a fitting epitaph garnered from a taped conversation in which Steve laments in a gravelly whisper, his unfulfilled desire to "... do more for My Lord."Any that wish for more shall receive it in Heaven with his Lord. Here's looking forward to meeting him.Dead or Alive, we'll meet him in the air or at supper.TL Farley, author,Blast Off Rapiemur - The 1st century proclamation and practice of the Imminent Rapture to this very hour. For Fans of Steve McQueen
This book is a nice personal account of Steve McQueen's last three years. I enjoy Barbara McQueen's pictures, comments and remembrance of her former husband. I have been a fan of Mr. McQueen's since I was a small child watching some of his most early movies like Magnificent Seven and Great Escape on TV. As time has continued I really appreciate his efforts on screen, his realism and his own way of trying to make movies. I have read biographies about him and though he had many personal issues to try and overcome, and fails to live up to ultimate all around good guy, he still holds a special place to me as a movie star. In the end this special book truly shows the courage he had to fight the fame and live life on his terms. For that I respect him as a person beyond one of my favorite film stars.

A Cool Guy and a Cool Place. Santa Paula CA
Steve is the all around cool guy. Of course everyone knows this. It was poignant to read about his last few years. I also own an airplane hangar at the Santa Paula CA airport. My hangar is right across from where Steve's was. It is like I can feel his aura. He was so lucky to have Barbara as his 3rd life. She captured this era so very well. I hope I can meet her some day.

A surprisingly good book
Really enjoyed this book. Since I had only known about Steve McQueen's life story from his ex-wife Ali McGraw's account, I was surprised to read this version of his life. In the three years Barbara Minty and Steve McQueen were together it seems they were soulmates. She was not threatened by him and vice versa. And possibly at this point of his life he had seen all the glamour and artificiality of Hollywood and wanted to settle down with the right woman and Barbara Minty fit his "type of woman." I think he definitely liked his wives or partner to be physcially fit because his first wife Neile Adams was a brunette, a dancer and in good physical shape. Second wife actress Ali McGraw was also a brunette, rail thin, and the "it girl" when she made the movie The Getaway with him which then led to their affair and marriage. And then came Barbara Minty, a successful model, brunette, tall, rail thin but a down to earth kind of gal. I totally relate to her picture taking because I do the same thing and have an extensive photo and video collection. I was really moved by the way she described his illness and then Steve's conversion to Christianity and reaching out to evangelist Billy Graham and him responding to his call and coming over. I felt as if I was there. It is a nice read about two people, movie star Steve McQueen and model Barbara Minty and the life they lived when they were together. I'm glad they got married and that Barbara wrote this book. Its a nice memory for Steve McQueen's family, friends, and fans. Also mentions his cancer and what could have caused it. He was 50 years old when he passed away. By today's standards that is not old as people are living and working longer. Rest in peace Steve McQueen. Blessings Barbara Minty.

great book!
This book came really fast and was in great shape. The last few years of McQueen's life really set him apart from typical Hollywood celebrities. It would have been cool to see him on one of his old bikes. Thanks for a great book!

Not much for the money
This book tells you very little about Steve and way too much about the author, the former Mrs. McQueen. This book is simply not worth very much money, or the purchase price.

Not much is revised
I already had this book but bought it again as it was a revised edition with the promise of more photos etc.. It proved to be a waste of money as very little has been added. If you have the original don't be tempted to rebuy it. I have since discovered the book was going out of print, revising it is a clever way that publishers use of having another run printed. I have still given the book 5 stars as it is a wonderful book and I can't recommend The Last Mile enough.
