The definitive subject book
How we got from Dixon of Dock Green's issuing revolvers to beat coppers with a military background to today's specialised resources and tactics, learning on the job, press misrepresentation and lies, mistakes, thinking on their feet, foul ups and successes, bravery, foolishness, technology and why it's needed. History and finances, risk and consequences and some very brave professionals, men and women. A fantastic insight into the subject. Highly recommended.

WELL OVERDUE.
Congratulations to Steve for stepping up to the mark and producing such an interesting book. Again I am biased as I worked with Steve who I count as a valued friend. I had to keep reading this book, it brought back memories and is a wonderful account of not only how the department developed into nineteen but also shows some of the extremes that the police have had to encounter over the years. He provides the detail that is not always reported, along with some sound reasoning behind the events. As stated this is but a fraction of all the incidents over the years. It is a book to be proud of. I have copies for my sons for Christmas, it will help explain what we did and why we were not always at home and the many times we left home, without warning, to go to work.

A must read!!
A fantastic read. I don't usually go for these type of books as its a bit of a busman's holiday for me, however I had the pleasure of working with the author and was intrigued to read his book. The books gives a brilliant insight into the progression and use of firearms thoughout the history of the Met Police. Very informative and not full of blah. Superb pictures also compliment the text. This book is written by a guy who has been there and done it. His knowledge is extensive and you can see the research that has been undertaken to compete this book. All I can say is buy it now!!! You will not regret it.

by which he is pleased and says it is a truthful account
This was a present for a relative so I can only go on hearsay, by which he is pleased and says it is a truthful account. He was a Commander at NSY in Special Branch so was very interested as to the authenticity and whether it was genuine as today there are a number of books similar.

Very informative read
I bought this book because I had a personal interest in one of the stories the shooting in South Croydon when my friends Greg Green and Mike Skinner were killed. Little was reported about this horrific incident because it was knocked off the front pages of the tabloids by the IRA Harrods bombing. It was a difficult read for me but it should have received more attention than it did at the time, so I was pleased the author thought it deserved a mention in his book. RIP.
