A wonderful value.
This is my first TWSBI pen purchase. The packaging was very well done, and the pen arrived in perfect condition. The pen is constructed of crystal-clear plastic, with what appears to be polished stainless steel accents. The pen is of substantial size - a bit over 6 inches capped. As a caution to potential buyers, the pen is really not practical posted; it is very long and unbalanced posted. I disassembled and cleaned the pen with mild soapy water before use.The pen writes very smoothly, and the stub nib gives a very nice formal quality to writing. A somewhat more vertical style of writing brings out the quality of the nib. I have tried two inks, both by Noodler's, and both worked well. There was no staining inside the barrel from either ink.I would not recommend the pen for rapid note taking or in situations in which very small writing is required, as writing a bit on the large side and with a little flair really makes use of a stub nib.One real advantage to this pen is that TWSBI offers a number of nibs that can be interchanged. I like the look and feel of the pen so much I immediately ordered a fine nib for more rapid or small writing. All in all the pen seems well-constructed, is easy to fill, easy to clean, and writes very nicely. Highly recommended.

Great bargain; great pen
I saw someone writing with a cool looking pen at a meeting I was attending. I approached him after the meeting, and he turned me on to TWSBI. After I looked at some youtube videos, I decided I liked the way the stub 1.1 nib wrote, so I ordered one. It arrived quickly and wrote perfectly right out of the box. My daughter so enjoyed playing around with it, that I bought her one as well. A great mid-line (well, for me $60 is mid-line), every day writing instrument.

Much to broad & wet to be useful.
Although smooth, this nib is much to wet & broad to be more than a highlighter.

Somewhat new to fountain pens, but I can tell this is a well-made piece of industrial design. Smooth, write great, easy to clean and maintain... Really fun pens.

Great Pen Depending on What Nib is Attached
The reason is originally I bought it with a 1.1 mm italic stub nib and I fought with it for nearly 3 years (from June 2015). It would always have false starts or for no reason dump ink puddles as I was writing. I adjusted it multiple times based on videos from TWSBI and sbebrown YouTube videos but could never get the 1.1 mm italic nib to work right. The 1.1 mm nib also had a leaking problem which caused the cap to have ink inside which then in turn caused ink to get on the section then on the fingers during writing. I never figured out where the leaking was coming from when the cap was on.I've recently bought a TWSBI VAC-700R with a medium nib and it writes phenomenally. So I ordered a replacement nib for the Diamond 580 also in medium (Feb 2018). This replacement nib has made the Diamond 580 a joy to write with and I should have done it from the beginning. Also the Diamond 580 works great with the TWSBI Diamond 50 Ink Bottle which makes easy refill of the pen.The 4 stars is because the performance of this pen depends on what nib is attached to it.

Particular about pens, this is my daily carry.
Admittedly particular about my fountain pens, but of all my collection, this is my daily carry. Pair it with Sailor Kiwa-Guro Black, or Diamine Blue Velvet - 150th Anniversary ink and it’s absolutely a treat. Caveat: most of my writing time is spent taking notes in meetings and I use the Montblanc notebook #146.

Loyalty Runs Both Ways
After researching online regarding the TWSBI Diamond 580 1.1Stub Nib pen hard starting and drying out during regular use, and cleaning the pen carefully like everyone else, TWSBI did not honor their own customer service pledge.Instead of sending me a replacement nib they told me to take time out of my busy schedule to clean, package, and ship their failing product back, and once they receive it, send me another one. Maybe I'm "old fashioned," but I'm not going to be a loyal customer to a company that is not loyal to me. I returned the ink I bought from them as well. I can live happily with the superior products of all of their competitors.Bad Product, bad service, bad company: bye, bye.

Buy an ECO instead
Unlike my TWSBI ECO, this pen is prone to hard starts and skipping. It almost always is hard to start and then it will skip at random times. For this price one expects a reliable pen. This pen does NOT meet that expectation. Too bad, because it is an attractive pen, but after all one buys a pen to write with it.
