Stand & Deliver / Lean on Me

Stand & deliver is a great, inspirational film. I showed it to my ESL adult students & they loved it & could relate to it. However, my gripe is that it was advertised as a double feature with 'Lean on me' which was NOT enclosed. I returned it & was sent another, still NOT included. I'm disappointed Amazon, I don't know what else to do. I suggest not advertising it at all as a double feature, it would have been cheaper just to order the one film.

Never easy to do good work for modern youth and not get discouraged.We can all stand to be reminded of the teachers who inspired us to excel, to reach father than we thought we could and for those who we owe a debt of gratitude for their effort.

This is a great movie, and a good price only makes it that much better.This dvd is two-sided, and comes with "Stand and Deliver" on one side and "Lean on Me" on the other. While I have only watched "Stand and Deliver", I did check the other side of the dvd do be sure "Lean on Me" played also. (Some other reviewers had difficulty accessing both movies). I had no problems with the product.Stand and Deliver is a great movie that brings a different perspective to light for many. It is about a low SES group of students who are finally challenged enough that they pass the AP Calculus exam, when no one believed in them before. It brings to light different home situations, like ill relatives, gang activity, or having to take care of other siblings. Events like these can make education harder, but that just means that we need to find ways to work around it and help every student to succeed. An inspiring movie loosely based on a true story.

I have viewed this move 50 times and see and learn something every time I view it. This is a classic no doubt. James Olmos is one of the most underrated actors in Hollywood of the time. I believe this was Lou Diamond Phillips first major role and he did quit well. He was believable in his role and comments like," What is this "calculis". It is a true store of Latino struggle and great accomplishment of an extremely dedicated teach Jaime A Escalante. Thank You W. Schwartzenweintraub

They really need to re-master these movies. The audio quality a lone is the pits. Stand and Deliver is an 'alright' movie, but I've always loved the hell outa "Lean on Me". But yeah, be nice if they Blu Rayed Lean on Me so that they'd digitally remaster it and the audio, especially that Parent Teachers meeting. Morgan gives such a great delivery there and it's destroyed by the complete lack of audio quality. These shortcomings aren't unique to this 2 set package, it's the movies themselves. They need to be remastered. Pretty sure they were just as bad quality wise in the theaters.

The movies are good but they lack subtitles. So if your DVD player is hooked up to a digital connection, instead on analog where you can get the closed captions, you are out of luck if you are hard of hearing. The sound editing on the movie Lean on Me is also just horrible. One minute it's quiet and you have to turn the volume up, the next moment Morgan Freeman is screaming at the top of his lungs and you have to turn the volume down. Both movies come on one disc, one on each side, which is also kind of frustrating, since the label is just on the ring and very hard to read.

Yes...but this! Great acting, great subject, great intrigue. Not to mention that there is a real story behind the movie. If you enjoy seeing a reality check in movie format about real life issues in the public schools, these are the films to watch. Additionally, the backup casting is every bit as talented as the big name stars. Well done and well directed films. These are the kind of movies worth watching time and time again. I highly recommend them!

Both of these movies show that one person can make a difference in the life of young people. Garfield High School and Eastside High School are more like ghettos than actual schools. Jaime Escalante and Joe Clark have different approaches to improve their schools: Escalante uses practical examples to motivate his students while Clark takes a more authoritarian approach. Both men meet with opposition from students, parents, other teachers, and administration. They believe that their students can accomplish their goals but need the proper motivation. These movies are perfect for beginning teachers in urban areas.

Beide Filme der DVD sind nur auf Englisch, mit englischen Untertiteln. Bei mir war der Ton nur sehr leise zu hören, und die Sprache natürlich mit starkem amerikanischen Akzent. Der eine Film spielt in einem mexikanischen Viertel (?), der Hauptdarsteller spricht neben einem schlechten Englisch auch oft einige Brocken Spanisch dazwischen, die nur teilweise übersetzt werden.Das ist nicht negativ oder positiv bewertet, nur zu Ihrer Information.Ich fand beide Filme sehr gut, und sie haben mich sehr berührt. Die Filme sind auch nicht mehr so neu, aus den 80igern, meines Wissens nach. Trotzdem habe ich 4 Punkte gegeben, da der Inhalt sehr aktuell und interessant ist. Es geht um das Thema (staatliche) Schule und wie diese das Leben der Jugendlichen bestimmen kann. Im Negativen und im Positiven. Es wird gezeigt, dass so viel mehr möglich ist, wenn die Lehrer eben nicht nur ihren Job machen.Aber sehen Sie sich die Filme selbst an. Sie machen Hoffnung.

Habe die Filme noch gar nicht gesehen... weil sie nicht laufen: es handelt sich um eine (zweiseitige) Region 1-DVD, die nur auf einem entsprechenden DVD-Spieler läuft. Weil ich ein Fan von E.J. Olmos bin und sie vielleicht mal bei jemand anderem sehen kann, habe ich sie behalten. Allerdings muss ich sagen, dass wohl jeder davon ausgeht, dass wenn der Region-Code nicht erwähnt ist, es sich um eine Region 2-DVD handelt.Wer einen All-Region-Player hat, sollte keine Probleme haben.
