Prairie Dropseed is a 2’ to 3’ tall native perennial warm season bunch grass. It is one of our most valued native ornamental grasses for gardening and landscaping with its fine textured arching leaves and ease of growth in poor or droughty soils. This plant prefers dry to medium soils in full sun and tolerates a wide range of soil types. Tall airy flowering panicles appear in late summer. Prairie Dropseed is used for ground cover in hot dry areas, in native plant gardens, in wildflower meadows, in rock gardens, and as accent plantings and borders. Birds are attracted to the seeds and the arching foliage provides good wildlife habitat.
