Bought this to use with a Klein cable tester, the tester went back under warranty as the tone feature is broken, but the probe is very useful.This thing made my day so much better just this morning, I had a jack that could have terminated in two different closets... We put a Fluke tone box on the jack and two of us split up to try both closets at once. My Klein found it first! Clear loud tone, good sensitivity.I really like the push on or stay on feature.This to is very intuitive to use and well made. If I had to force a criticism, they could have included a lanyard. :)

I purchased the Klein VDV500-808 toner to help me with a burglar alarm project. The house was pre-wired and although it was easy to find where some of the cables were located, others were a mystery.I read reviews of several other toners. There were a lot of reviews for one at about a $35 price point. This might have worked fine but I decided to opt for a more professional unit and I am really glad that I did.The Klein toner is sturdy (not that I will be abusing it) and works as advertised. When it is attached to one wire, it is easy to pick up the tone but you have to be very close to that wire to get it. I was able to follow wires which were behind drywall as long as they were close. When I touched the toned wire the receiver volume increased substantially to let me know that I had the correct wire.I also used the toner by "grounding" the other alligator clamp to the screw in the middle of a convenience outlet. This made a substantial difference! Now I could easily follow the wire behind drywall from several feet away.My longest run was about 30' so no long runs were involved.I highly recommend this toner. I can't project how it will handle long runs but if one clamp is grounded it appears that it will have substantial range. Other than the two alligator clamps there is a telephone line plug. I did not use this at all and do not anticipate doing so.

saved us hours of wire tracing and irritation - used it on "dead" electrical circuit and within minutes found the problem. turns out there was a bad/miswired GFCI - the outlets on it were working but it wasn't powering the rest of the line... and turned out there were two GFCI's in series! I'm quite sure it will come in handy for future troubleshooting projects. Recommend it

The VDV500-060 does it's job well and helps me localize which line is carrying the signal pretty easily. I've seen other tools used that were less accurate when lines were bundled closely together. Often, it seems overly sensitive to ambient signals and I have to turn the volume down or get a low howl from the speaker. After reading reviews the only thing I noticed was some were surprised by the size. It isn't pocketable like some, but the dimensions are clearly indicated. Check those if you are looking for one that is tiny, this isn't it.EDIT: as noted, packaging says battery included - it was not included.

This kit is made of cheap plastic, but it works as advertised. I use it to trace mystery wires in industrial cabinets. It easily pays for itself if you read the directions and don't bang it up too much.

This product works okay, although I notice it is a little too "noisy" when tracing wires. I tested it out with multiple short cables (6ft) near nothing but concrete and myself. Despite this, even with the volume adjusted, it picks up a noticeable whine. When touching to the specific cable that has a toner on the other end, it is a little difficult to hear the difference. Yes I followed the directions, and yes I tried all the settings. I just think the tip is overly sensitive. Unfortunately you can only adjust volume, not sensitivity.What upsets me about this product: on the packaging itself it says "9v battery Included" on the front. It also says "required battery Included" on the pack. But guess what, open up the package...no battery.Do not print that lie on the packaging when you can simply remove it.

Great product and good quality

Generates a very loud tone, which is what I needed for finding wires hidden behind stucco. Klein gets some grief for not manufacturing their products in the USA any more, but I have yet to have a tool failure and I appreciate that I can afford to buy their tools, which I likely wouldn't be able to do if they were made here.

Very happy with this item so far. Works as discribed, with almost zero learning curve. Works great on its own, or with some other Klein tools too. Personally I bought this to pair with the Klein VDV501-809, and have to say I love the two of them very much. This tracer is by far the most accurate tone tracer that I have used; absolutely no question as to which wire you are looking for. My only wish was that it were a little smaller. It's not too big to be aukward, just bigger than it looks in the picture or than I would have liked. Great pice too compared to the big box stores.

Works great and easy to use . Remember its quiet large just same size as a clamp multimeter .
