FLUVAL excellence!
Worth every penny. Engineering excellence. it does so much in a very small space and so quiet! Really thought out well by the designers. Easy to assemble. No tools needed except a razor knife for the tubing and some FG silicone grease. Just started it up on a new 55 gal. FW planted aquarium. I was tired of hang on filters--too noisy. I tried the competition but nothing comes close to this beauty!! It appears built for the long-run.

New Design that works
I now own two of these awesome 407 Series 7 filters from Fluval. I won one of these several months ago and finally set it up. This filter is quiet and efficient. As you can see in the picture the water is crystal clear in my slightly overstocked 55 gallon community. Also the size of the filter does not take up a lot of space, I have it in a recycle pail from a local chain store in case of any leaks (No leakes to date). The new design is efficient in clearing even the smallest particles in the water column, it is set up for easy cleaning and has enough capacity for diy'g you own media make it more efficient. In the several months of being in service, the only time you have noise, is when the water level drops and if it's not in time when I am doing a water change, I lower the flow and problem solved until the next water change. The flow control can also be used to reduce the flow while feed. The have now introduced a UV clarifier, a skimmer and a spray bar. The unit comes with a spray wand, which works well at breaking up the surface allowing for better gas exchange. I am thinking of adding the spray for better tank circulation and rotation of the column of water in a rolling motion front to back as opposed to just moving the top level of water around tank. This will add to better cleaning, surface agitation and gas exchange. In my opinion this is a great filter and alternative to a larger canister which may be overkill in certain situations. It moves water and the GPH is 383 US Gal/h. Most times the MFGR's states the GPH w/o media in the filter. A canister that won't break the bank and is not huge if you want to hide the filter under or behind the tank, depending on the size of the stand. I own a few different canister from other manufacturers and this one is a cut above. Check it out, I think you will be happy.

High powered and QUIET canister filter
R.e. the Fluval 307 Canister: I purchased this to replace a new and horribly air-leaky MarineLand C220 canister. Hoping for no leaks and no noise, this Fluval unit does exactly what it should and with a couple of nice surprises. The flow rate is huge, fast, and can be adjusted, a nice touch. At full power this thing rocks water around my 55 gallon (208 Liter) aquarium, a bit too much, especially if you have smaller fish. A simple lifting of the valve on the canister, and the flow rate is reduced. Once can also get a spray bar, but this costs additional (why not include it!?). It is very quiet, so quiet that we cannot tell that it is working unless looking at the water flowing. Filter changes are easy with immediate access to the pre-filters for quick cleaning, and a stack of filter materials that you can choose from to meet your tank's needs. There are plenty of good media out there. If you have favorites, use them. The hoses are interesting but work. Do follow the installation instructions about hose length. Do I recommend this filter? Yes.

Great filter
I bought this filter thinking it might be a bit to strong for a 10 gallon hexagon aquarium. As it turns out it's absolutely perfect. I had a Marineland hang on power filter, it was just to old and I wanted a much better filter. I had canister filters before for much larger aquariums. However this canister filter is super quiet, I was shocked at the quietness. Also super easy to maintain. Water flow is super easy to control, full strength or turn it down. Awesome filter and I'm glad I got this one. Super awesome, I love it. Great product. Highly recommend!

Not Recommending Fluval 307
This is my 4th Fluval filter for two 40 gallon tanks The first three were Fluval 207s. One is still working great, water is crystal clear and the little 207 is absolutely silent and it has been working for years. This recent purchase was my first 307. I did not have time to set it up initially. I installed it on Feb 28. It does not work at all as of today. The first time it stopped working was 72 hours after an uneventful set up, I came in and it was making a loud noise, the cannister was hot, and there was no output. I unplugged and opened. It looked perfect. I emptied the canister, plugged back in, and repeatedly used the manual pump. Eventually, it started up. A loud noise remained. The tank cleared up. This event has now reoccurred 4 times. But this AM, I could not get it going. So a 40 gallon tank is sitting with no filter and a good sized res. I got a 307 that is good for up to 70 gallons for a 40 gal tank becsuse I wanted to get a larger tank soon so I upgraded to a 307. I will now deal with customer service. If that goes well. I will remain a loyal Fluval customer. If not? No way would I risk getting in this situation again. I am unable to afford another filter not even a month after getting this one and the tank can also not remain unfiltered. This is not good.
