Newly Translated and Reconstructed!! Video Dimensions is proud to present this newly classic film in a totally reconstructed version along with a new English translation. This is Karel Capek’s “R.U.R.” as processed thru the blender of Russian Cinema. It shouts ‘Capitalism Bad, Communism Good’, but the heavy-handed propaganda can be ignored and what’s left is an amazing science-fiction epic with probably the best designed robots since “Metropolis”. The film is a visual treat treat and features not only an amazing final battle between robots and humanity, but a bizarre scene of dancing robots that is absolute genius in its eccentricity and execution. Mixing in elements of “Frankenstein” along with ”Metropolis”, the film depicts a society in which the capitalists of an “English speaking land” push their workers to achieve more efficiency while stripping them of their humanity and eventually discarding them as used goods. Engineer Jim Ripl sees a solution to all this. He’ll design a machine to take the load off of workers. A mechanical laborer who won’t tire and has no feelings. He creates “R.U.R” - Ripl’s Universal Robot and convinces factory owners of their value. But the capitalists use them to force out the workers and Jim finds himself on the receiving end of hatred from both sides. A revolution is needed and pretty soon the factory workers have managed to use the robots to their own benefit. DVD EXTRA:Robot Rampage - Very early attempts at actually building a working robot come out with unusal results. Featuring “Alpha”, “Elektro” and “Roll-Oh” performing their tricks!
