Good looking clock. Battery has to be inserted in a specific way
I bought this clock for my mother, who has trouble reading her current digital clock read-out due to reflections from the window. This is a good looking clock, easy to read, and she really likes it. Note that the packaging is a little tricky to remove for someone with arthritis, the plastic cover top is attached to the bottom with tiny staples. I bet my mother would have trouble opening it by herself. The clock is fairly light, I am including a photo of the clock with battery on a postal scale, and it weights 5.1 oz. The clock runs on one AA battery. Note that the battery is not included with the product. Despite the light weight it did not feel flimsy to me.I read in reviews for this clock that the battery sometimes does not staying in the clock so I decided to put in the battery myself to make it easier for my elderly mother. At first I had trouble putting in the battery all the way into a deep battery chamber. It was positioned at an angle. The clock began running even when I did not insert the battery correctly, but I can see how it could have easily come out if I were to leave in that angled position. But then I noticed directions on the cover than the battery should be put in with the positive polarity first, and as soon as I inserted it that way the battery went in easily and was seated firmly in the deep chamber. I am attaching a photo which shows the direction on the cover next to the properly inserted battery. When I inserted the battery deeply in the chamber it was very secure. The clock has a ribbon that goes under the battery for easy removal.Overall, both my mother and I are very pleased. Good looking, well behaved clock and at a very reasonable price. I recommend it.Ali Julia review

Perfect Alarm Clock - and cute too!
Initially i was hesitant to purchase this clock, becuase the reviews were so negative. But i went out on a limb and bought it anyway. The clock is EXACTLY what i wanted. I'm a college student and the escalating alarm works perfectly so it's quiet enough to wake me up (I'm a light sleeper) but not to loud to wake my roommates up. I absolutely LOVE that it is analog, i much prefer it to digital. And i know some people where saying it is smaller than they expected and i can say that is true, but it is still a lovely and functioning clock, not super large or anything. The only thing for me was that the picture of the clock is only different in one way really, the font. The font on the clock in the picture is different from the font on the actual clock (the numbers are written in a more normal text). Someone also said it was very wobbly, but that is not true it was very stable for me. I mean as long as you aren't slamming your entire arm on the thing to turn the alarm off, you should be fine. And it is a very soft ticking clock, so its perfect for a light sleeper such as myself. Actually the light ticking is kind of soothing...

I like this clock so much that I am buying it again.
I like this clock so much that I am buying it again. I just thought of another place where I could use one just like it.I have learned over the years to take the preponderance of customer product reviews and not focus on the highs or lows. However, just this once I would like to address certain one-star comments:"The single AA battery is easily dislodged, stopping the clock." Folks, read the instructions. There is a certain way to install the battery which, if followed, allows the cover to close quite securely."The clock is very flimsy, and is easy to knock over." Yes, it's a small clock. It's made that way for a very specific purpose: To fit in a small area and be viewed from not too far away. Like the table next to my reading chair. So it is small. But flimsy? Easy to knock over? I suppose, if you are throwing a football around or something."Within the first 24 hours, the sweep second-hand had broken off." Really? How do you suppose that happened? (See above.)"Well, whatever the reason, this little clock just won't get going." This reviewer went on for a paragraph without ever mentioning whether he or she thought to change the battery."And it ticks so loud you think there's a time bomb in the house." This is the one that amuses me the most. Really! I have decent hearing and, unless the room is absolutely quiet, I cannot hear this clock ticking unless I sit right next to it. Even in absolute silence, I need to concentrate to hear it ticking from across the room. And so on. You get the idea. Look, maybe I'm lucky and maybe some of those one-star raters did get lemons. The clock that I got is exactly what I thought it would be, quite attractive-looking, and so far has kept perfect time.So why only four stars from me? Well, the one thing I wish they did leave off the clock is the sweep second hand, which I find just a bit distracting and annoying. But that's a preference, not a fault in the product. The other reason I took a star off is because the clock is made in China. Wouldn't it be nice if something like this could still be made in America? Not a chance these days.Anyway, remember: Always take the five-star and one-star ratings with a grain of salt. Look for the preponderance of ratings instead.

Great clock! LOVE IT!
ALMOST didn't get it due to one review about it being 'too small' (its not) and onesaying it gets knocked over easily (it doesn't) and one saying it made too much 'noise'--say what? I have it by my ear and don't hear it and I have great hearing. So to each his own...but I got this clock for the bedside table and an extra alarm. The alarm is great...starts slowly and more quietly and builds which is great. And this clock doesn't topple over...stands extremely well-just as well as my other clocks and it looks sooooo rich and is a perfect size..going to order another one for my bathroom as it looks nice in there too! You'll be glad you got this one (re: the backlight--or side light--not too bright but I dont use that feature often anyhow) Hope this helps!

Item was rejected
I keep telling I rejected the item as the product image was not what I originally saw and ordered. I do not understand the need to review this at all

Not a Timex Elgin, but a cute litte clock.
This is a cute, small tabletop clock. I was glad to find that its hands are also metal, but the top button is chromed plastic. While it is not a Timex Elglin (as the product description states), it is a nice looking Equity model 25655, made in China. It is identical to the clock that appears in the product photo except it does not say "Quartz" on the face.It looks good, keeps good time, and it's easy to read from a distance, and I have been using it to time my counselling sessions. It has a faint but pleasant ticking sound that I can only hear close up.
