The book was recommended by a friend. I am very fond of Alabama and always thought the state was a beautiful place and to find out about it's biodiversity was gratifying. A must read

Enchanting and ennobling. Flawless. The vicarious adventure one embarks on in the photos and lyrical descriptions on every page drips with with a sense of the exotic, the primordial excitement of childhood discovery. This is what Einstein meant by 'a holy curiosity.' Here there be dragons, here there be magic, potential, the spells of Merlin, the beauty of Guinevere. Even if the Delta depicted here only existed but as a fever dream, it would matter enormously as a work of act, or alchemy. Because it does in fact exist in all it's glorious mystery and wonder, nothing else matters. If Raines' book can't inspire Alabamians to save the Delta, inspiration is overrated and nothing's worth saving. This is heritage worth saving, all else is hubris. Faulkner said the past is not dead, its not even past. Here is the proof. The Delta is timeless. Buy this beautiful book as an heirloom for your descendants seven generations forward. Pass both on intact.

This is an excellent book to illustrate what is happening to the diverse area along Alabamas coast line! Beautifully illustrated and important and interesting information. I have t finished it yet but will definitely pass this along to my grands!

If you live here you may have an idea of variety of this watershed. It is wonderous, but definitely threatened. Buy one copy for yourself and another for your nearest public library.

Wonderful photography and information on Alabama. We learned so much and hope we can all do little things within our power to save this unique region.
