This clothes drying rack is soooo neat! I read on other reviews that there were some rough spots in the wood that required some light sanding, but I've not found that with mine. I do plan on giving it a coat of paint just to protect it from any possible mold growth from the wet clothes. The unit seems sturdy and very well-made! It really is exactly what I was looking for as I've become tired of pulling out the huge, yet flimsy, drying rack that I've been using; just takes up so much room and looks extremely tacky!The only complaint that I have is with the packaging during shipment. Upon removing the rack from the box, I noticed a nickle sized ding or dent in the wood on the left rear corner of the shelf. When I looked at the box, sure enough, there was damage to that same portion; I can only assume that it had been dropped or something. It is in the back portion of the shelf so it's probably not worth going through an exchange process and having to wait to get it painted and what-not, but it really could've been avoided with a little protective packaging. For the $$ spent on this little jewel, it would've been nice to pull it out in pristine condition.

The good:1) Seems cleverly made.2) Appears sturdy and compresses to take up little room.3) Top shelf is useful4) Holes are drilled 16" apart (thanks)The cons:1) Mine came rather roughly finished. I had to sand it, before finishing it.2) It also had one ugly wood knot smack in the middle of the vertical piece. It's not a structural problem, but given the price it seems the company could apply a bit more quality control?How to Improve: Why not sell one finished with a poly or white enamel paint surface. If you're going to hang wet colored garments to dry you need to seal this, or the raw wood will sooner or later absorb the dyes.

The wife had a stand up rack in the laundry room taking up a lot of floor space, so I began looking for alternatives. There are several racks of this design, but this was the only one I could find in wood. It's also the MOST expensive of all that I saw. It appears well made and looks great, but the cost seems inappropriate. I could have built this for $20. But, being lazy, I opted for the easier option to just open my wallet.If you're willing to spend the money, I'm sure you will be happy with the product. The wife is extremely pleased to have it and consideres it much better than the stand up rack she had.

While others have commented on the quality of the wood, I could not be happier with the sturdy piece I received. It is well made (and made in Maine: a plus). Certainly it is not designed to hold wet jeans or towels; it is meant for light shirts, hat & gloves, delicate items, etc.4 stars instead of 5 due to what many others have said: this piece is UNFINISHED wood and that should be made clear in the description. I had to condition, stain and poly (including sanding, etc.). It was certainly worth it because it is hanging by our wood stove now and it will be great during all months of the year.

It appears to be a sturdy well crafted shelf. It turned out to be a lot bigger than I thought it was & does not fit in the space it was intended for. Shipping it back for a refund was too expensive to make it worth it so, the seller kindly gave small partial refund. It's currently living in a box in the garage until we can find the time to spray it with some poly & find a place for it.

We went to drill a pilot hole at the edge of this to be able to attach the screws to wall studs. strangely the wood shredded. A new drill bit was used so it wasn't that the drill was dull. Odd. Anyway, based on suggestions from others, I sprayed with clear varnish and unit looks great. functions well, I have no problems expanding or folding the concertina. Haven't used it heavily but I really like it so far.

This shelf with drying rack was one-third the price of a comparable product from another distributor. The first one I found was $199! The wood is good quality. It is constructed very well. I did have a hard time painting it. It did require a little sanding with a fine grit paper. This was challenging. I used spray paint as some suggested, but even then, it was hard to get paint into all the folds. I couldn't see any way to take it apart to paint it without ruining it. But, it's done, it's mounted on the wall in my mud room, and it looks great as long as my friends don't look too closely at my attempt to paint it.

The description is very deceiving in stating 27" wide. The drying bars are barely 19" wide and not wide enough for hanging anything substantial. Additionally, as stated in other disappointed buyers comments, were the unfinished rough edges of the wood work. This would snag anything that you place on it with the splintered edges throughout the entire rack. The most horrid part is that if you request to return it they will not tell you how much your refund will be; only that you will be charged for the shipping and handling for sending it to you which will be deducted from your return. In addition, you have to pay for the return so I imagine you end up with less than half what it cost you originally being returned to your credit card. I tried to communicate with this company to no avail, so it is not worth my time to even try to send it back and not be secure I would receive a refund at all let alone a fraction of what I paid. The most awful customer service we have ever received from a company on Amazon to date. Very dissappointing.
