Re:ZERO: Starting Life in Another World - Season One Part One [Blu-ray]

Solid series with balanced humor, horror, fantasy, and drama. Great Animation. No blu ray issues.
This is the COMPLETE Season 1 blu ray collection. The previous blu ray releases, separated into Season 1 Part One and Part Two, had video quality issues and often had to be returned. FOR THIS CURRENT RELEASE, Season1 in one package or blu ray bundle, I see no issues whatever so ever. Video is sharp, smooth, clear, and colorful. I believe the problem has been fixed for the current blu ray release. I will update this review if I encounter any issues. There are a series of pictures posted in this review. This is my favorite "another world" anime in recent memory. It's 4 years old now, but new to me.The premise is that a random young man is transported to a fantasy world, however, in a trope defying and fun and creative take. Our hero has no powers or special abilities (at least for quite some time) readily apparent. He's not the chosen one or some fabled hero, he's a guy thrown into an unfamiliar world. He ends up meeting the "big players" of the world slowly and surely, but he has to struggle to even 'survive' in this new world he's in. He gets involved in some bigger things, but he's hampered by the fact that he doesn't know anything about the world he's in. What I love is that series doesn't shy away from the psychological toll certain events have on the characters. The actors give it their all (both dub and sub) and I can honestly say the show almost made me cry once or twice. I also laughed hard throughout the series too.Spoiler (read ar your own warning): The best part of the series is it's interesting to take or plot element to 'death'. "Return by Death" - wherein every time our hero dies, time itself goes backward and he 'awakes' at a previous checkpoint. Similar to a video game mechanic. However, dying is incredibly painful and scary. It is not to be abused as we learn in the series. The constants deaths due takes a toll on our hero Subaru and he doesn't understand the curse that's been placed on him. He is NOT in control of this power and that's scary. Through the pain and fear, it allows him to grow as a character after paying heavy prices for his mistakes.

Blu ray color banding finally fixed.
Edit: So I'd like to add that I purchased both Part One and Part Two and that only Part Two came with a digital copy. Part Two had a Funimation Digital Copy sticker on the cardboard sleeve where as Part One had no indication of any digital copy. I'm not sure if this is indicitive of "new" copies of Part One or not, just a thought.I just received my set and it seems Amazon finally has some new sets with correct blu rays. I loved this anime so much I've been waiting for blu rays to be fixed before I purchased. I finally bit the bullet and it seems I got a good set. Mine was shipped from San Antonio, TX.

Life is Filled with Suffering
- Synopsis: Our theatrical, and fourth wall-breaking protagonist is Natsuki Subaru. For reasons unknown, he was suddenly summoned to another world. A fantasy world much different from his original one. Soon after he is summoned to this new world, he learns of his new gift: When he dies, he restarts at certain "check points.” Using this ability, dubbed "Return by Death," he makes it his goal to reach his desired “happy ending." But eventually, Natsuki Subaru will learn that tragedy will be one of his closest companions...- Comments: This series is easily in my top 10 favorites. It does an amazing job at drawing in the viewer, and can get very emotional at times, among other things. The only real complaints I can see is the cliche of being summoned to another world with little to no background on the protagonist prior to being summoned. Additionally, Natsuki Subaru doesn’t even seem interested in returning home. Moreover, due to the nature of the protagonist’s ability, it may be a bit repetitive at times.- Analysis: Death is feared by many people. But it's not entirely a bad thing. For example, given this extreme either-or, would you prefer a slow and painful death, or a quick and painless one. The responses will vary from person to person. But my point is, that death can be the one thing that truly liberates a person from suffering. Immortality may seem like a blessing at first, but like Natsuki Subaru's Return by Death, it seems more like a curse to me.- Features: Contains English audio, and Japanese audio with English subtitles. The subtitles are white. Includes 12 episodes on 2 DVDs and 12 episodes on 2 Blu-rays. The runtime is about 5 hours and is rated TV-MA for violence, blood and gore, and suggestive dialogue. It also has a reversible-cover with Natsuki and Rem on it.- Conclusion: An emotional roller coaster ride of an anime. Has a likeable cast of characters, an entertaining protagonist, cute girls, and does an excellent job at hooking the viewers, among other things. This is among my top 10 favorite animes. Moreover, I can see some complaints regarding cliches and repetition with this anime. Though it's slightly pricey, especially considering this is only part one, It was worth my money. And was a series I've been wanting since I've seen the streamed version. The limited edition version that I got comes with some goodies: a huge and thick case (use the other animes as reference), book-marks (I think), a small art-book, and a double-sided pillow case (no pillow core) that I could fit a pillow core of 51 cm by 66 cm very comfortably, with plenty of room to spare.- Recommendations: Blade Dance of the Elementalers, Is it Wrong to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon?, Grimgar, Akashic Records, The Familiar of Zero, Black Bullet, Gate, Hundred, Absolute Duo, Tenchi Muyo! War on Geminar, K, World Break: Aria of Curse for a Holy Swordsman, Tokyo ESP, Code:Breaker, and Sky Wizards Academy.

Such a fun, funny, and messed up anime
It’s heartwarming and crushing at the same time. The psychological battle is really well done. This is an anime I could rewatch a few times and still be very entertained.

The most weeaboo version!
It's comes with a freakin pillow case... I had no idea I clicked on the limited edition version when I placed the order and was very surprised when this showed up. Again there is a friggin pillow case in the box... This is a great show and I would definitely recommend it... But you might want to get a different version unless you really, really need a new pillow case and don't mind your friends and family judging you and your life choices...
