Why pay more?
I bought these on a whim for my college bound freshman. He needed about six of them for various lab classes. If I were to buy a five star brand at target, they were about five bucks apiece. For less than half the price this is just as good quality. The thick heavy plastic cover in the front is good and there is thick cardboard backing in the rear. Wire spiral material is well crimped and smooth. I don’t detect any difference in the quality of the paper at all. Why would I pay more? These work just fine.

Lightweight paper
I am a paper products afficionado, and I know what I'm looking for in a notebook. If it matters to potential buyers, the following is a side-by-side comparison with a generic counterpart. What I like:1. The color of the cover, which can't usually be found2. The sturdiness of both the cover and the inside pocket3. The inside pocket is two-sided4. The pages tear out easily at the perforation when you want them to but don't accidentally tear when you don't5. The corners of the pages are nicely roundedWhat I don't like:1. The pages are smaller than my other notebook.2. Because of this, a standard sheet of paper will not fit in the pocket. If the professor is passing out supplemental sheets, they will have to be folded to fit, and they still will poke out the top.3. The paper is thin, so ink bleeds through. I compared it to my other (cheaper) notebook paper by placing one sheet on the cover and writing with different pens. The pictures show that there was some slight bleeding through onto the cover when I used this notebook's paper; the other didn't have a problem. Furthermore, when I used a supposedly non-bleeding felt-tip pen, it was definitely obvious on the other side of the page. This was not the case for my other notebook. My conclusion from these tests is that I would only buy this notebook if I absolutely had to have this shade of pink, or if it were cheaper than the other (generic!) brand. At this time, it is not.

Great notebook!
Please pay attention to the sizing. If you need the standard size notebook, this is not it. They are a bit smaller than a standard notebook. A standard notebook is 8.5" x 11" and these are 8" x 10.5". With that being said, the notebooks themselves are very good quality. The plastic cover is very thick and durable. The metal spiral is also thicker than your standard spiral notebook. I have not had any issues with it warping or coming undone. These are great for note-taking in college or high school.

Good notebook
This notebook comes in a few colors. I purchased the black one. The first thing I noticed about this notebook is that it is metal spiral bound. Some notebooks are bound with tape, but this one is not. The spiral binding is not big enough for most pens to fit inside and it's a little tight turning the pages, but this is a very minor issue. The pages are perforated along the inside, so you can rip out a page without having those annoying paper frillies along the edge. It is 3-hole punched and has 2 pockets for papers/small items as the first "page."The cover is plastic, so if you want to write on the front of it (subject name for example) that might be difficult, but I did manage to write on it with a red sharpie and it shows up well enough. The back is grey cardboard. The pages are college ruled, with pencil and pen ink showing up well. Overall, excellent notebook for a single subject.

A bit pricey
This is a great single subject notebook, got it for my kids back to school list. That being said, it's a single subject notebook for $10. It's definitely nice having the waterproof cover as opposed to the cheap cardboard cover ones they sell everywhere, but for $9+ dollars more?

Classic notebook, but a touch pricey
Yep, good, classic lined notebook with perforated sheets of paper. It's got the plastic cover that's more like college in the '90s than high school in the 80's, and the manilla slot pocket at the front to store papers. The back cover is the cardboard from high school in the 80s so your kid can totally work on their Van Halen logos. My daughter's starting 5th grade and this is right in her wheelhouse. She's already using it and has not made a complaint.I have to say, though, I'm an 8 1/2 by 11 guy. I have my reservations about 8 by 10 1/2. Also, I don't remember notebooks being this expensive. $12 feels a little rich, and a quick search shows others out there for less. Maybe it's the plastic front cover?

Basic notebook
Basic notebook that serves it purpose. Nice plastic cover to protect the papers behind it.
