Planning to return
Edit: after finding other books on solving the Rubik's cube, I realize the cross pattern is the first step in solving. However, the instructions in this book aren't clear. I've solved it several times now using a different book, and still don't understand this one.First issue with the book is that it teaches you how to "solve" the cross pattern from a perfectly done cube with all the faces a solid color - NOT how to solve the cube to get the solid color faces. Second problem is that it expects the pictures to be in color as it describes individual blocks by color - but the book is black and white! Yes, there's a color version too, but if the book is clearly meant to be printed in color, a black and white version shouldn't exist. My son doesn't even want to touch the Rubik's cube he just got this morning now. Highly disappointing, planning to return this.

Black and white
the book is black and white and I cannot tell what color face is being used. you can apply the principles to any color. I can build almost the whole cube except for two corners. Tried about 15 times. The instructions in the last part, final part are not correct. Because it say, this algorithm must be familiar, yes , it is the first one we used. But it is not the same as the first one. May be this is a mistake. I recommend this only in conjunction with some other guide. This book does teach you valuable moves and rules that you can apply from multiple ways. But something is not right in the last part. The language of the instructions is a big off also. As if it was translated from another language.

Great book
I learned to solve the cube from a book 30 years ago, and wanted a book with an easy approach so I could help my 11yo son learn how to do it. This book was perfect for a beginner who wants to learn the easiest method possible to solve the puzzle.

This is NOT a book for kids! Parents be warned!
If I could give this book 0 stars I would. There's NO WAY a "kid" can read this book and understand what it's going on.First of, just like every other Rubik's cube book, the images are black and white which when solving a color puzzle makes things significantly harder.Second, most of the pictures and colors are two tonal so there's no way to tell which piece is which. Then there are sentences such as: "If you see two bottom layers that are the same color..." but no where in the book, up to this point, does the author explain what a layer is. And then, assuming is the bottom row, am looking for same color all around? Two bottom layers? Does that mean bottom and MIDDLE layer?... you get the idea. no color, bad explanations.... save your money!

The book didn’t help. All of the algorithms that were supposed to solve the cube just further scrambled it. It also wasn’t clearly explained. in parts of it it suggested that if you do this than this will happen but it didn’t .

Worth it .. !! Recommend !!!!
my granddaughter is picking all this information apart. Im sure she will figure it out . Thanks .

Works except for very last step
Could not get the yellow corners to solve... the six times and done just puts all the cubes back in the same position. Tried 10 different times and gave up, finding another book to solve the yellow face.

Semi-helpful
This book is only semi-helpful. It starts from a white cross and two adjacent U shapes from green and red. Trouble is, the pictures are black and white which make it very difficult to follow. So we haven’t yet been able to solve the rubix cube from this book, after about two months of trying.

Enjoyed it.
Slightly complicated to understand. But good enough.

Excellent
The book is well written and simple to follow - very suitable for me Lol.

Pictures are in Black and White!!
I'm sure this would be very easy to use if the pictures were in colour. But while the text refers to the pictures as though they were colour ('turn the cube so the orange centre piece faces you as in the picture') in fact it's all shades of grey. This leads, obviously, to us spending more time working out what the colours are meant to be and how to hold the thing than we do turning it. Very frustrating! Also, the final stage, when you put the corners orient themselves, just doesn't seem to work. But of course, that might be a failure in the algorithm, or because we can't see the pictures.

Not really child friendly
The author has attempted to simplify this as much as possible but my 10 yr finds some of it ambiguous, as do I! I had a rubiks cube back in 1981 and I bought a similar book with which I was able to learn to complete the cube in 56 seconds! I tried to go through this book several times, and I am struggling to make sense of it in places. One main issue is that it often refers to the red side and the blue side, but all the images are in black and white!Obviously the rubiks cube is not intended as a childs toy/puzzle really but still if a book it selling itself as a solution guide for kids, it needs to be as clear and to the point as possible and if it refers to images and colours, then provide colours!
