The Eleventh Georgia Infantry was organized and mustered into Confederate service in the early spring of 1861. Some of the companies had enlisted before the firing on Fort Sumter. The Eleventh regiment served in Anderson's Brigade, Field's Division, Longstreet's Corps, Army of Northern Virginia. They served throughout the war in Virginia from First Manassas through Appomattox. They accompanied Longstreet to Tennessee in 1863 and participated in Chickamauga and the siege of Knoxville. Several collections of letters and firsthand accounts are available for this regiment and at least 4 full length regimental histories have been written.
