Description

This Dorsal Cock-up Hand Splint is used for providing Immobilization of the wrist joint for restriction of motion, pain relief, joint alignment, functional support, and/ or positioning for healing. It keeps fingers and wrist secured and stabilized in a functional resting position. This dorsal splint allows for maximum range of motion without triggering flexor spasticity, because the contact is on the dorsal surface of the palm and wrist. The Dorsal Splint limits wrist flexion and extension during repetitive hand motion. It can also be used as a wrist extension splint to support a weak or flaccid wrist. Some distinct advantages of the dorsal design are that it leaves the volar palm free for sensory input, and it acts as a strong lever to help lift a spastic flexed wrist into a more functional and beneficial position. The dorsal design allows for functional activities to be performed easily without the interference of the orthosis.
