These things suck
I put 5-6 of these in my house. None of them lasted more than 3-4 years. They all started creating nuisance alarms in the middle of the night. What's the point of buying smoke detectors with a 10 year life is they all fail before half of the advertised life.I liked the look and the functions of these. The feature where you can figure out which device was the one that caused the alarm was nice, as I was ripping the damn thing out at 3am.

False Alarm on 1/4 so far.
Revised 10/05/2022.These Kidde photoelectric detectors do not seem to work as well as Kidde's ionization detectors that I have used in the past. I swapped out a number of Kidde's ionization detectors at the end of their 10 year life for 4 battery units of this model and 6 AC units of the related model - all with Kidde photoelectric detectors. I have high ceilings. If one of these fail, it is difficult to get to in order to remove it and stop the initiation of false alarms. One can temporarily hush the alarm from another lower level interconnected unit. But the failing unit will go off once again. I don't know if these Kidde photoelectric detectors are overly sensative to dust, temperature or what. I think they have a temperature problem because it happened on a warm day at a 14 foot ceiling. I would like to think it was just because it was only operating on the battery, but other reviews tell me I am wrong. If you have high ceilings, these photoelectric units are probably not a good choice. After spending hundreds of dollars, I am rethinking the use of these and likely swapping back to ionization units. I know they recommend both technologies in certain rooms, but false alarms are probably the worst issue for a smoke detector. You cannot trust them. I wish Kidde would redesign these to fix the sensitivity issue and false alarms. Maybe use redundant detectors and circuits in each that have to agree before setting off the alarm.Revised 10/01/2022.I have purchased 4 battery units and two AC units so far.Installed them about one year ago.Now we are starting to get false alarms - my guess is from temperature fluctuations in the weather. The older kiddie models I had with replaceable batteries worked better to avoid false alarms.Kidde needs to redesign these to use the older circuits to avoid false alarms. I don't recall having a single false alarm with Kiddie's ionization smoke detector models RF-SM-DC and RM-SM-ACDC.I originally gave this unit 5 stars for ease of install. However, they are pretty much useless with frequent false alarms - now I give them one star.Particularly when you have high ceilings and cannot easily reach them.Until they fix the false alarms, I cannot recommend them.************These are easy to install.Prior to mounting to the brackets, be sure to go through the process to interconnect them wirelessly.Pick one to be the master, the one that is going to be the center of communication, so that it is somewhat in the middle in terms of distances to each of the other detectors. So far we have had no false alarms after a two month time period.

Great safety enhancement!!
Absolutely outstanding! Create a network system just like hardwired units. Vastly better than a standalone unit going off in some corner of your house while you sleep through that alarm. We used these for our remodel and now if there’s an issue by the fireplace, in the basement, mechanical, or in the kitchen- every bedroom and every level of the house will hear about it. Excellent system and I feel very good with it.

Nice smoke alarm, solo or networked.
Update 3 years after install. The best clue I found that consumers disliked these alarm is when Home Depot stopped carrying the product. To many false alarms. The one thing I did to solve my issues was to open up one unit and identified where the antenna was located in the unit. As it turns out that knowledge changed everything. I am now able to interconnect the units more accurately. Instead of my antenna pointing out the window at the neighbors house, I can point them at each other. I also discovered that these detectors are pretty well built, having duel 10 year battery in each unit. I now keep 2 extra units in stock because I know the false alarm are coming. If I do get a false alarm I reset all the units by holding down the button for a long time until the unit total resets itself, like it’s new out of the box. From there I pick unit that I want as the master, set it up first and reconnect all the other units to him. I will admit I have 2 smoke alarm systems running in my house simultaneously, 5 from ADT with my alarm that are hardwired and 5 of theses. We’re getting out of here alive, even if I have to put up with an occasional false alarm. I know a false alarms forces me to do a little maintenance by way of cleaning any dust off the units.Network four together and you have great protection. I have had a few disconnect from the network and start loudly chirping. Fine if it's the middle of the day. Easy to add it back to the network. If it happens during sleeping hours your going to be pissed.

Great alternative
Needed another smoke detector to keep up with requirements. This was easy to put where I needed it without having to rewrite for it.
