The rock cycle explains how different types of rocks relate to one another. This kit includes twelve different rocks which represent the types of rocks that are formed during the rock cycle. Packaged in a box with substantial protective padding for each individual rock to preserve specimens. The kit includes 4 metamorphic rocks - Green Slate, Coarse White Marble, Red Slate and Mica Schist, 4 igneous rocks - Bituminous Coal, Red Sandstone, Gray Limestone, Labradorite and 4 sedimentary rocks - Andesite, Basalt, Pink Granite and Porphyritic Granite. While each specimen will vary slightly in shape, size and color, it will measure approximately 1" in length. The included activity sheet describes each type of rock, how they can be identified and the different ways that humans use the rocks every day. The other side of the sheet includes an activity that allows learners to place the different rocks on a rock cycle map where they would have formed. Selected & Processed by a Geologist. Each and every specimen is selected and hand processed by an actual geologist, ensuring that each sample exhibits defining features. Rocks and minerals are sourced from a variety of locations around the world and are processed by hand in Victor, NY.
