Lascar EL-USB-2 Humidity, Temperature and Dew Point USB Data Logger

This is a fantastic little device. I bought two of them to test greenhouses and cold frames used for growing tree seedlings. The software is easy to install and simple to use, and shows you a great picture of how temperature and humidity fluctuates over time. The logger seems to be sealed pretty well against splashes, moist soil, and incidental water contact. The cap that covers the USB plug is fitted with a rubber O-ring, which means it seals very tightly, but it also means it's tough to get the cap off. I'd rather have a tight seal than a cap that falls off, but the cap could have been designed with some texture or something to grip.My only other complaint is that the pocket clip is a little too easy to remove - I wouldn't want to suspend this from the pocket clip alone, since I suspect it could fall with a relatively minor bump or wind gust.Those are minor complaints, though, and not related to the functionality of the device. They can both be overcome with a bit of creativity.Highly recommended for easy tracking of temperature.

The USB Temperature and Humidity Data Logger looks like a nice product. The software installed easily. Windows only software crashed when data logger was plugged in. Upgraded the software from the website and was able to configure the probe. Let probe monitor for a week and plugged it in to download the data and the software crashed again. I'm unable to use the probe at all due to the fact that the software crashes when trying to download the data to my computer. This happens on all my computers. I opened a service request via the website and received a voicemail response once. It's hard to believe that they ruined what looks like an excellent product by writing terrible software to manage it. Don't buy this product line - their software is garbage.

Works as advertised even though readings are a bit high and there is no calibration support.However, what's really annoying is that Lascar only supports Windows and does not publish adequate details for third-party developers creating a Linux or OS X driver.

Great product that has performed as advertised. Easy to program and download. Would be nice if it were easy to pic a download choice that would not immediately fire up Excel. So far so good. All sorts of uses in the home audit/home energy field and also gardening

i have it, i have used it for some time but am back in the market for a better device.i guess it works as advertised, but does not work well.1. batteries - seems like they should last longer, i have not found a rechargeable option.2. when i connect it to my PC, if the battery is dead, it makes my Windows 7 PC freeze.3. for some uses, i'd prefer it used the power off the USB port

Delivered in time with no fault and ready to operate with battery, SW and instructions shipped, it was proably one of the best deals I've made this year. This nice instrument is already making a positive difference on my business by providing me effective data that otherwise have been just impossible to obtain, and even more, to be accepted by my customers. Now that we all can see what's going on with the temperature and relative humidity, is much easier to define how to address the related issues.Lascar EasyLog SW allow to get the logger be ready to work in just a minute, no hassle, no problems. Graphs and export data functions included too. I can't certainly imagine any other thing to add or request from it. Now my only problem is that all of my peers and customers want a EL-USB-2 as well! = )

A nuisance to download

I have two of these data loggers for monitoring environments that are generally close to normal room temperatures. Initially I had some concerns about the software based on previous reviews and the fact that it arrived on a mini disc (which my laptop does not have a drive for). Fortunately the software is available online at Lascar's website for no charge and I had no problems installing it on my Windows 7 laptop.Every now and then the software doesn't recognize the logger but all I have to do is remove and reinsert the logger into the USB port and it works just fine (so that could be a laptop problem). The software is easy to use and intuitive for me. I have used similar software which is not intuitive, requires quite a bit of training, and is far more expensive. While perhaps this software/logger combo is not as robust, it is really quite refreshing by comparison. It does what it says, it's accurate enough for what I need, and the loggers are easy to use. It's hard to ask for more than that!
