celebrate Scotland's master poet: Robert Burns
An excellent book! This book lacks the illustrations in the original book which can be seen in on the Tam O'Shanter wikipedia page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tam_o%27_Shanter_%28poem%29.This book has no links to the excellent Robert Burns concordance and other Robert Burns Resources avaliable online, which can be found in : Smart Remarks of Robert Burns, only on Amazon.com, which is FREE on the First Saturday of every month

No Alexander Goudie illustrations
I thought I was getting a book of Tam O'Shanter with Alexander Goudie illustrations. It was merely a reproduction of a library book. Very poor.

An ode to Cutty Sark
Lovely Robert Burns poem. Source I sought for origin of "Cutty Sark" in doing research for the Houston Maritime Museum. It was the gaelic word for the garmet of the flying witch that chased poor Tam across the bridge getting only the tail of his horse. The witch, the horses tail and the cutty sark became the figure head of the fastest British clipper ships in the China tea trade. The whiskey was named for the ship. The poem is worth the struggle with the ancient English.

Handy size and great illustrations.... but
Love the pocket size handiness and the illustrations. However, there are a few spelling mistakes, lines missed out and others that are wrong, but that didn’t spoil my enjoyment of this wee book as I just wanted it as a ready reckoner to confirm I’d got the verses in the correct order. It’s also handy for those who don’t know the poem to read along to as I recite this fabulous work.

Great poem in Scots
To anyone who's never heard of him (an indictment of the education system if ever there was one), Rabbie Burns was a great, and prolific, Scottish poet. You can find free lexicons online so you can learn the language if you get the urge. The poem only works if read out in a Scots accent, so maybe listening to Rab C Nesbitt for a while first will help our English friends? *grins*A great poem with an entertaining end and the formatting is good enough on Kindle.

classic
How can I review such a classic as this?Burns at his bestIt has to be read aloud .. (if you can't then listen to the sounds in your head!)Being a Northerner the dialect isn't a problem, but even if I didn't the rhythm alone is beautiful.Tam, his wife (nursing her wrath to keep it warm!! ) Cutty Sark and of course the wonderful grey mare Meg are characters that I'll never forget. So atmospheric!

A Ripping Yarn
This is a great verse ta!e, and a lot of fun to read. I didn't understand all the dialect language, but I liked the sound and rhythm of it.
