Q: What is the useable length of the pin appears to be 1 1/4"

I got these for the tailgate/ramp for my utility trailer. One had a pin that was 1-1/4 inches ,the other was 1-1/2! I don't know for sure, but I think they are supposed to be 1-1/4 inches, and the other was a mistake. Hope that helps.

Q: Will the pin lock back out of way when it’s pulled open, so not to interfere with gate when closing?

Yes, they will. The rotate and a 90 degrees, you can lock the pin against the outside frame. I've had 2 for a number of years and they work really well. Thanks, Mike

Q: Can I take the pin out to use on an existing trailer? I only need the pin, spring and cotter pin.

This can be disassembled by driving the roll pin out. Whether or not it will fit your existing , I couldn't tell you.

Q: What is the base plain to pin center dimension?

Mine are on a trailer gate and work well. Could not lower the gate at the time. With the pin fully retracted the end is flush with the base, pin travel is 1.5” minimum. The base is 3” wide and the pin is just over 6”. From the end of the pin to the roll pin is roughly 1.75”.
