Tape. Your thumb. A large brick. A small child. Sorry for the sarcasm. Assuming you're an artist, get creative. I tape what I'm tracing to the back of my drawing paper.

Q: what are some of the uses of a ligfht box

Although I have had the light box for several years, I've used it more to trace garment pattern markings that need to be transferred onto fabric than I have for my art. One reason is that the 10 X 12 box is too small for most of my art needs.

Q: Can it be used to view old negatives?

A light box wouldn't project a positive image. Instead, I highly recommend the Wolverine Convertor for negatives, slides, and film. You can see a positive image in color, download a digitized version to a memory stick or computer, and further edit or photoshop it. If you don't have a computer, there are some limited editing controls (rotate, color), though they are cumbersome. Just take the memory stick to the photo store for printing.There are newer versions since I purchased mine (which is yellow). Q: Can this be used to copy embroidery patterns on fabric

absolutely! I am a quilter and I do hand applique. I use the light box to transfer the patterns onto dark fabrics as well as light ones. It works great!
