Great for teachers who are new or those who are having trouble being consistent or calm with their classroom management
This book is great for teachers who are new to the field or educators who are having trouble being consistent with their classroom management or those who find it hard to handle difficult kids in a calm manner. I know I use a lot of these strategies already and other teachers usually come to me for help in classroom management. It's nice now to have a book that discusses the strategies I use and I can recommend this book to others who would like specific examples or don't have time to visit me in the classroom. I was hoping for some advanced strategies for those kids who cycle through every few years where none of your usual tricks work. And I confess, with a family and second job, I don't have the time to visit my students for their soccer games or plays, which was one of the suggestions. I know students would love to see their teachers supporting them, but it's not feasible for many teachers with families or long commutes to be able to do so and it would be nice to be offered other alternatives to do on campus.

A gem of a book that should be required reading for every teacher
As a seasoned educator, educational consultant, and teacher coach, I have been in countless classrooms over the years, including my own. I’ve ensured that I was up-to-date on the latest and greatest behaviour management strategies. I’ve read countless books on the topic. The bottom line is: some strategies and approaches look beautiful on paper but fail to work in the real-life classroom.Rob's approach is positive and empowering, yet authoritative and sensible and, most importantly, it’s an approach that works! The stories he tells pull you in: not only to understand his thought process, but to create effective analogies so that the reader can completely understand his points. While I read this book, I wanted to shout from the rooftop, ‘Yes, yes, yes!’ If every classroom teacher used these strategies and techniques in their classroom, they would definitely be able to take control of a noisy class.

Absolutely amazing.
This book is really great. It explains behavior once the students enters the building, and then your class room. I started using elements of this book since September, and I have seen a difference in my students. As explained by the author, Rob, I post class procedures in the room (not just rules), therefore my students always know exactly what is expected of them and how it is expected. When they try to test me, all I do is point to the procedure posted on the wall. It works. Rob is an absolute genius.....this is my 16th year teaching, and I work in Jamaica, Queens, NY. This is an extremely challenging school district, but with the help of Rob, I am able to endure each day, and to keep my extremely high, blood pressure down.

Useful tools for your teacher toolbox
I'm 7 years into teaching middle school and I have been finding it harder and harder to get and keep my students' attention. I stumbled across Mr. Plevin's work on YouTube and was immediately impressed by his clearly defined, step by step instructions for resetting a noisy class and getting them back on the right track. In his book he shares his experiences with difficult classes with his own tried and true methods, putting them into easily implemented techniques. From ideas for building relationships, to ways to add humor and keep students engaged by injecting short, interesting activities into your lessons, his ideas will help you regain and maintain your sanity!

Rob knows how to build culture.
I have been a loyal follower of Rob Plevin for a couple of years now. Having purchased other materials from him as well, I can tell you that his books and information is top notch. The thing about his content that I find motivating is that when you put it altogether, he's not talking about teacher hacks and quick fixes. Instead he talks about how to become a better teacher, modeling better practices, and how that builds culture. When you have a positive and healthy culture (i.e. good classroom management), you can teach anything and your students will eat it up.

Not too late to change...
Reading through chapter 6, ot only had I many aha moments, I laughed at myself while I recall my I'm too stern to smile teachers while patting myself on my back, comfort in the know that all the mistakes in my teaching career can be rectified.Praises and rewards go well together, just need the fine balance and the delivery finesse. This amazing book shares how to give feedback creatively and succinctly. Rewards take a new meaning and comes with a twist. Really, rewards need not be expensive all the time.

A life-line for a teacher who needs help with her noisy class!
I teach 6th grade and I am having a tough year with a VERY NOISY CLASS! They are good kids generally, but I get so frustrated and worn out by the end of the day that I just couldn't take it anymore and bought this book.Rob knows exactly what I am going through! It's comforting to know that he's been there and he offers sound (no pun intended) solutions. This book is great reading because of the many practical ideas that can be put to use ASAP.

Better than expected.
At first, many of the ideas seem to be the same old suggestions, but they seem to work better for me. When I looked at them more closely, I realized that even the ones I already knew about had some new to me adjustments made. I am so glad I found this book as it really does help the teacher with that class that just won't mind.

The only behaviour management handbook you'll ever need
What I love most about this book are the practical examples that allow you to immediately apply Rob Plevin’s philosophy of teaching, his dedication to positive reinforcement and behaviour management, which is rooted in mutual respect and fun, in the classroom with confidence. He even tells you exactly what to say. A complete dream for a newbie teacher. How often are we faced with experienced mentors firing back a “well what would you do?” when you ask them direct questions about issues with behaviour management - “I really don’t know” is usually my answer! “That’s why I’m asking you. I'm at the end of my tether!”.In every chapter (and in a helpful reference list at the back) are a set of ways that you can apply his ideas straight away but more importantly - and like all good teachers - he relates the ideas back to our own experiences as teachers and human beings. In the chapter Positive Reinforcement, Rob tells the brutally honest story of his own financial rock bottom - it was only then did he realise that punitive action has little to no effect on those who already feel lowest of the low. Unsurprisingly, it was praise and a significant elevation in self-esteem that came flooding in from his devoted supporters that got him back on his feet. And it’s that story that sticks with me now as I deliver meaningful praise, - which for me is sometimes entirely scripted by Rob’s examples. I know that I will become more spontaneous in time, but in the meanwhile I find the actual tools for dealing with the toughest part of this job are contained almost wholesale within the pages of this book. Thank you Rob - from me and from the numerous troubled souls that have also benefitted from me applying your years of wisdom and kindness of heart in my own classroom.

Essential book for teaching old dogs new tricks!!
I was feeling really demotivated as a teacher after my last class. Even though I've been a good teacher for my 18 year long career, I found that a few challenging (very) were able to make me lose total faith in myself and my management abilities. I was shocked that none of my previous successful strategies didn't work on these children. It got so bad I knew I had lost control for the first time ever. However, I've read this book and I've watched Rob's videos and I feel back in control. I'm back with the same class again this year, and I will be implementing a lot of Rob's ideas. This book gives you back what you think you have lost. It's not just for new teachers, it's for experienced teachers that may have just lost their way a little bit!! It's teaching this old dog some new tricks!

Something for everyone.
This book will help new and old alike. I'm only at the beginning of the bok and what I like about it is that it brings into sharp focus why I'm teaching in the first place. Over the years I became complacent I have to admit. I wasn't thinking about what I was doing as much as I used to. It's true that over the years our workload has increased exponentially and things do fall by the wayside but this book has already helped me by reminding me of things I'd forgotten about in order to be genuinely happy and enthusiastic about teaching. I also think new teachers will benefit hugely from this as they can adopt the strategies right at the beginning of their careers and probably not end up leaving the profession.

Helpful
I needed some tips on how to manage my classroom after feeling a little ashamed at not quite knowing how to get it right. It is quite embarrassing as a teacher to admit that your pupils do not respect you. After reading this book I feel refreshed and excited about trying the techniques suggested. I haven't yet tried anything out but I certainly will because the energy and confidence from the author is infectious! It is all quite simple really and not out of reach. Plevin doesn't patronise. He has been there before. And he makes you think hard about why you teach and that children are human too. They deserve teachers who try a bit harder. I really hope I can put the advice into practice. I feel confident that it will!

A must read for all in the teaching profession!
As a trainee teacher, we are constantly being told about the importance of developing positive relationships with our students. However, as trainees, we are not in a single school setting for long enough to be able to do this long term and really see and track a difference.Chapter 6 of The Noisy Class provides invaluable strategies which are designed to help improve the relationship between students and teachers almost instantly. The ideas and examples given are creative, fun and easy to implement which is ideal for trainee teachers and even the most experienced teachers to achieve those ‘quick wins’ – minimum effort required for maximum results. These ideas are applicable for both primary and secondary school settings. The anecdotal and informal writing style brings to life the examples that are discussed and makes it easy to understand both how to manage issues in the classroom as well as why these issues occur in the first place. Additionally, the use of grey boxes within the text give you access to strategies very quickly without having to read the chapter in full (however, this is something I would definitely recommend doing!)
