Nice but frustrating
I love Tilly’s patterns and the very clear instructions. What’s really disappointing about the patterns with her books though is the need to trace everything as they’re printed on both sides. On top of this they’ve compressed so many patterns onto each piece it’s difficult to see which lines relate to each pattern. I’d rather pay a little extra to get the patterns printed on one piece of paper per design and eliminate the frustration.

Good for beginners and very rusty restarters.
Locked down and not able to buy clothes, and slightly inspired by the GBSB, but I haven't sewn anything for almost 40 years (we did needlework for 2 years at school, and during that time I failed to complete the blouse we had to make). I was looking for something for beginners, and this is it.The instructions are very clear, with plenty of photos, so I was able to start at the beginning and create. The patterns need to be traced. While this is somewhat tedious, it does give the time to really think about the pieces, and to understand what you need to do - and no chance of ripping or cutting your original by mistake. The garments at the start are very simple, perhaps too simple to be flattering. But it's easy to make simple alterations to suit - I made my second pair of Safiya trousers somewhat longer, and they look much more flattering. There's a good range of sizes, more than most books of this type. I'm needing roughly twice the suggested time to complete each project - I'm putting that down to inexperience. Someone who doesn't need to refer to the instructions at every stage could go much quicker than me.I'm hoping to progress to more complex garments now I'm starting to understand how they need to be made, and my sewing machine skills are improving.

Unusable
Was so excited to get this but am utterly disappointed. After just a flip through, I wouldn't make anything in here. There are a couple of things that are ok but I can find better versions elsewhere.Bearing in mind that taste is totally subjective, the designs (to me) are a *total* turn off; not the least bit elegant or even pretty, but rather schlumpy, shapeless, overly casual, flat.Maybe for total beginners, tweens, people who never leave the house, this might be a decent enough introduction to sewing, but I personally can't/won't use this.I have the author's other books though and respect what she's trying to do, but this one is a miss x

Not as good as her other books
I haven’t had time to read this in depth, but the patterns are very much the same as before, and are a little boring. I was really looking forward th this book launch, and am a little bit disappointed.

Perfect to create a capsule wardrobe!
Admittedly this is my first Tilly and the buttons book so can’t compare to others. However I must say I LOVE it. The dresses are exactly what I was looking for. The shapes are slightly Scandinavian style so perhaps not to everyone’s taste but I love all the make it your own suggestions for each pattern meaning you could potentially make 3/4 very different dresses/tops from each pattern. The instruction and tips for faster sewing are simple yet effective and love the section on batch sewing. I probably won’t make the pyjamas but will shortly be making all the rest! Can’t wait to make more of a capsule sewing wardrobe and speedily! Would definitely recommend.
