Fine
Homeschooled this year because we moved states. Used these books for review this spring to make sure there weren't any glaring holes in my kids' education (I'm older than today's common core standards). These books cover what we went over this year. They are definitely a "work on a separate piece of paper" sort of workbook, on account of there not being a ton of extra space per page to "show one's work", but that's not a big deal. It's definitely not good for honing one's skills, as there are only a few questions per concept, but fine as an assessment tool.

wonderful book to help children build their common core skills and confidence.
My boy has always had trouble in reading and English since he started school. I bought this book before the summer started in hopes that he would be able to stay caught up going into the second grade. It worked! He loved taking time out of his day for language practice and on several days, chose to do more than my one required exercise a day. each excercise is about five questions, give or take. This made it a great practice book because the excercises were not long and drawn out. My boy has ADHD and was able to sit through 1-3 practices at a time, without medication. It is only a few weeks into the school year but he has been bringing home a's and b's in these subjects and is so proud of himself. I am one proud mommy as well! 😃

Great kid friendly resource for parents and teachers
This is such a great resource for parents and teachers. It is kid friendly, has an answer key and reinforces multiple skills. It can be completed in as little as 10 minutes with minimal adult guidance.

Good Common Core Supplement
I bought this book as a supplement since we are all switching gears to align with Common Core. What I LOVE about this book is the CC Standards Alignment Matrix at the beginning of the books. It maps out which standards you are working on for that week, a total of 40 weeks. The daily work is short, about 5 minutes at the most. The books is mixed with comprehension and grammar activities. The 5th day is the assessment which cover the skill that were addressed in the previous 4 days. There is section about building a reading environment and a section for writing strategies, which has nothing new or enlightening for educators, but would be advantageous to many parents if buying for home use. I took away one star due to the fact that the lines provided to write a response are on the smaller side, as another reviewer pointed out. This book is geared towards 6 and 7 year olds who are still developing line placement, finger spacing, and whole host of other skills that makes lines this small an issue for some.

Love it so far and this is why...
I love that my son feels like doing the work in this workbook is fun rather than work! The lessons don't add a lot of time to his already heavy load of homework (thanks common core) and he's doing really well on them. As soon as I determine whether this workbook improves his reading and/or reading comprehension, I'll be back to update my review.

HAPPY MOMMY
MY CHILD UNDERSTANDS LANGUAGE COMPREHENSION BETTER SINCE WE HAVE BEEN USING THIS BOOK AS A STUDY GUIDE. HE HAS WENT FROM C'S TO A'S IN HIS READING AND LANGUAGE COURSE. I AM VERY PLEASED AND RECOMMEND USING THIS BOOK AS A STUDY TOOL. MATERIAL SIMILAR TO WHATS BEING TAUGHT IN CLASS SETTING.
