Grows lettuce
I’ve grown lettuce in this several times. The pump is noisy but if you stick a kitchen towel or other cloth under it then that makes it pretty quiet.

Not exactly as promised.
The net cups are not 2 inches, which is what I wanted. But this system will do for starting seedlings for later transplanting to my kratky system. Overall, it will work, once I move a shelf or buy new shelving.

Pump too noisy for practical use
I rarely bother with reviews but this one was so disappointing I wanted to say something. I set it up and then plugged in the pump. I couldn't stand the noise. It's much too loud to be near anyone for more than a moment.Amazon efficiently accepted my return. I'm going to try a similar unit which the reviews say is quiet.

Not for outdoor use
The kit came with everything you need to start an airponics garden. I'm using a Kratky setup so I didn't need it. The box is solid opaque but not lightproof. If you're using a good light system, you're going to get algae. I'm using it outside and it's definitely terrible for that, algae grows in a day. If you buy this, cover it with duct tape or paint or black with latex paint to block the light. Other than that, it's a good cheap kit for people who want to grow lettuce and herbs inside. It's not deep enough for anything else.

Meh
The pump is too weak to add enough oxygen to the water. Within a week all the roots of my plants died because they literally drowned from lack of oxygen. I have been growing lettuce and arugula using the Kratky method for many months with great success. If you know the difference between Kratky and DWC, you know you don't add as much water using the Kratky method because the plants must be given enough space above the water line to grow air roots. With the DWC, you do not need this because theoretically, the air pump oxygenates the water. I saw this product and was curious if a simple deep water system would produce bigger plants than the Kratky method. I don't recommend getting this kit unless you just want use it for the Kratky method (without the air pump) or you plan on buying a more robust air pump.
