Babette's Feast is a Danish Drama film from 1987. Script and direction are by Gabriel Axel after a story by Karen Blixen (1885-1962) alias Isak Dinesen. The film won as the first Danish film ever an Oscar for best foreign film in 1988. That same year Stéphane Audran, who plays Babette, won a Robert for Best Actress. In 1989 the film won the British BAFTA Film Award for best non-English language films. An important theme in the film is the menu that is one of the film's pivotal. The menu and the dishes are described in the story without indicating how they are prepared. In some cases the names and designations are not readily identified. The food was handed over to the chef Jan Cocotte-Pedersen, who was executive chef at the restaurant La Cocotte in Copenhagen. All the dishes were in accordance with the book's spirit prepared from scratch and added with Jan Cocotte-Pedersen's expertise. The recipes were later published, and several of the dishes have become international classics. This DVD is the Nordic edition. It has audio in Danish and subtitles in Danish, Norwegian and Swedish.
