Thought provoking
I personally liked it, though my son was a tough sale. It makes you think about figures we hear about so often in history

Lots of Missionaries and biblical figures.
I have several dozen of the funschooling journals of all kinds, that I have purchased full price, on my own - none have been given or discountes to be reviewed. I am not religious so I try to buy mostly secular, but am able to look past a couple biblical references here and there.I was so excited about this book. I bought 2 before the list of historical figures was included because I thought it would be well known historical figures. There are at least 5 Missionaries, that Ive never heard of and after some quick research, weren't very remarkable historically and it feels as though a specific religion is being subtly pushed, which I do not appreciate. I love the suggestion in another review, to omit them and come up with our own so that's what I plan to do. If my kids can't come up with someone they'd like to learn more about, I'll help them.I was happy to see there were some black women included but would have also liked to see other marginalized people that did remarkable things included. I would have much preferred this over a handfulof Missionaries. Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't have minded 1 missionary, but having 5+ is excessive, especially when there are also other religious figures such as Jesus Christ and apostle Paul, not to mention Martin Luther King, Jr, Mother Teresa, and other similar religious people. Yes, religion is a part of history, but there are so many others that made huge impacts in our histories that aren't religious based and could have been included.I would only recommend this to religious families. I love the idea behind it and the template, but it's just not the right fit for my family as is and I have to make changes to it which is a bummer. I wish I hadn't bought 2 right away since I'm going to be changing some of the figures anyway, I could have just used the 1.

I like it but
I wanted to love this book, we started it and I should have seen who was going to be researched. I like Michael Jackson very much but as for history I do not want my 9 year old researching about him and see if he was hero or a villain. There are other people in this book I rather not have my son research about. I wish it was based on more important people of history.

Great Journal to Encourage Guided Research
I bought this funschooling journal for my 9th grader to use as a history supplement and we are both extremely pleased with it. Each section features a historical figure and students are asked to judge whether each is a “hero” or a “villain” based on what they already know. Students then draw a picture of the historical figure and conduct guided research to answer questions about the life and career of each individual. Students are then asked to make a final determination about whether the individual is a “hero” or a “villain” based on what they have learned. My 15 year old jumped right into doing this journal today and learned a lot of new information. We plan to focus on 1-2 sections per week since we are using this to supplement our homeschool history.

Great for a person who loves history
The media could not be loaded. My oldest child loves history. He was thrilled to see Charles Martel was in the book. He is in High School and is going to use this book as he reads through history and fill in the information and will learn about the people this way. I love how different the questions are and the way it is put together. I do wish there were some blank pages you could have come up with your own people in history to review.

My son is so excited to start this journal!!
We are new to fun-schooling, and this was one of the first journals that my 14 year old picked out. There are so many people listed in the book that are very notable historical figures. I very much love that the child gets ample time to research and read about each person and then make the choice if they were a hero or a villain. We are looking forward to picking out books for each of them to go along with the journal.

Fantastic
We were so surprised by this journal. It is full of many heros & villains throughout history. The child gets to research them & decide for themselves what they were. It is a wonderful tool for history. Perfect for our homeschool. Children use library books & the inter6to learn more. Love it!
