Portable and works great!
This is a fantastic and portable unit. Works perfectly and used it for the first time to repair a ground wire on a ham radio in the middle of the field. Such a great idea to use the 18v.

Thanks Ryobi!
Cordless soldering iron we are definitely living in the future! I used a 2ah battery and was very impressed by the amount of use I was able to get from one charge. It heats up very very quickly and overall feels like a nice quality built product.

Solid portable soldering iron
The media could not be loaded. I love that this soldering station can be both plugged in when I am near an outlet and then put in a battery and make it portable to be used anywhere. The temperature control is very even and easy to dial it in. The holder is easy to snap in and snap out so I can have it on the machine and then take it off so it will fit in my tool drawer. There is a sponge are with a little indent to have it available when you need to clean the tip. I use a holder with a copper tip cleaner bristle that I like much better than the sponge cleaning method. I would like to see a bigger indention on the machine that could hold the copper tip cleaner material but it is not too inconvenient to have both. There was a small amount of trial solder included but do yourself a favor and get a big roll. I absolutely love the battery powered feature which means I can take it out and work on my vehicle without dragging an extension cord out. It has a nice wide base and does not slide around when in use. I have heard that Ryobi is cheap but I have used these 18-volt ONE+ tools heavily without a failure so I am a believer. I do love the wide range of tools that Ryobi offers. If I were working in the trades as a professional I would likely go with Milwaukee but as a professional home owner Ryobi serves me well.

Good quality
Easy to use and works really well. It has an auto off feature, which is good. But I wish the time was adjustable. When I'm building a board, it turns off too soon. For quick repairs, it's fine.

Great Invention
I love this thing and try to find excuses to use it whenever I can. It heats up fairly quickly, solders nice, and I don't have any big complaints. I do wish the temperature settings were digital however. The wire for the soldering iron is PVC, which means you'll melt through it quickly if you accidently touch it with the hot iron. The built in tip holder works well with the bigger included tip. It doesn't hold well with the included smaller tip or any other tip I own. The sponge holder holds better than you'd think, but will still fall out if shook around. A built in tip cleaner would've been nice, too. Now, it might seem like I'm complaining about the thing, but overall, I love it.

Another nice addition to my Ryobi collection
I don't do a lot of soldering, and have always struggled when I try. That changed when I starting using this soldering station. Being battery powered I now can venture away from my cluttered workspace and work on a project "in-situ" using the same Ryobi battery platform I've been using for years. The station heats up quickly and is comfortable to use. It has self timer to save the battery so after a few minutes of inactivity it will cool down. That was a little frustrating until I read the instructions. My projects are small and I've never gotten to the point where I needed to swap batteries mid use. i typically use my 4ah batteries and they last at least an hour. It uses standard ends, that are easy to replace if needed. However, now that I have better "hygiene" habits when it comes to cleaning my hot end and keeping it oxidation free, my results have significantly improved and I have not needed to swap them out.The only small complaint I have is the form factor is a little awkward. When I am working at a bench, its a little too light. I tend to pull / move it while I'm working. I also used a sharpie to better indicate the setting on the dial. It was not intuitive to me. None of this was a big deal. The biggest issue for me is tocome up with a way to secure it to a table / workbench. On the other hand when I am working "untethered" away from the bench, it's a little too bulky in some situations. Not a deal breaker, and I don't use it enough for it to be a problem but could be annoying - especially when there is a more compact Ryobi unit available (that I discovered after purchasing this one. Thanks for reading this, I hope you found the review helpful.

This item does not disappoint! If you're already lock'd into the Ryobi One family of neat motorized tools/equipment..this is a nobrainer!

Heats up really fast
Solidly built solder station with removable tips. Love the versatility of either using a battery or an extension cord.
