Revolting but effective
We have backyard chickens and it is almost impossible to stay on top of sweeping all of the never ending chicken turds. If you have chickens you know what I mean. They poop nonstop. Ours eat tons of spinach and berries so they have liquid poops that flies will nest in. In the summer when it was hot we were constantly having flies inside from our dog going in and out and the back door being pushed open, and flies inside are disgusting. We tried to clean the poop daily, put diatomaceous earth on the poop immediately to dry it out, put up outdoor fly paper, etc. Nothing really helped at all. There were flies constantly on all of my plants, in the dirt, in the chicken coop despite regular cleanings, etc. so I bought this.I would highly suggest wearing disposable gloves when you fill it and to hang it securely high up enough that animals can’t get near it. We hung it at the top of our privacy fence, on a hook, as far away from our back door and garage as possible. Flies will be swarming around it and you might need to add extra water if you live somewhere hot or the water level doesn’t seem high enough to drown them after awhile. Even when ours was full of flies, I never noticed a terribly strong smell coming from it.The number of flies did die down quickly, though we did have to continue other preventive measures like cleaning up the chicken poop in the yard from them free ranging and keeping our coop clean. We also used Stall Dry and First Saturday Lime inside our coop and do the deep litter method, though we do scoop the poop tray beneath the roost where the hens poop at night every other day and put that old bedding in our yard waste because the poop builds up very quickly. It’s now winter time (we’re in the PNW and the winters are relatively mild.) We started having flies in our house again and I realized that the container was very full and a whitish layer was floating at the top that prevented the incoming flies from drowning, the container was almost totally full and it was time to replace it.I know you can buy new packets for the container, though attempting to clean it out was way more than I was willing to do and I really didn’t want my husband doing it and spilling it on himself, either. My husband very carefully, with gloves on, secured the container with the liquid/dead flies inside within multiple plastic bags so it couldn’t leak into our outdoor garbage can. I would suggest doing this away from your yard where your kids or pets play, our dog always tries to roll in stinky stuff so my husband did this at an abandoned lot since it’s easy to spill some of the stank. If you choose to clean the container out, you’re braver than me and I don’t have any tips. They are inexpensive enough and lasted us around 6 months so I think they’re worth just replacing entirely. If you have chickens, please don’t feed the dead flies to them. That is just disgusting and messed up to do to your hens. Flies are filthy creatures and I would never knowingly eat eggs that came from a chicken eating buckets of rancid, dead flies in stank juice. We would highly recommend this product if you have lots of dogs, chickens, horses or other animals that poop everywhere and attract flies. I saw some comments complaining that this product attracted all of the flies from the neighborhood. I didn’t find this to be the case and the flies In our yard quickly decreased after putting this product up.

Place away from living area and low down.
Works very well. Just keep adding water after it fills with dead flys. Doesn't smell bad.

Smells so bad, but works so well
We had major issues with flies this summer. This bucket had good reviews, so I thought we'd try it. It's super easy to set up. It works Super well! That thing filled up with flies very quickly. But it smells SO bad. Put it somewhere out of the way. I had to move it to the side of the house instead of at the back, because it just stank up the back porch. 10/10 effectiveness 0/10 smell

Great Fly Killer!
Thanks to the amount of rain we got this year, I was noticing a massive fly explosion near our chicken coop and knew I needed some type of fly control (which I’ve never needed in my 5 years of chicken keeping). This product works wonders!I followed the directions and hung this up on a tree behind our coop. We had cool weather so it caught some flies but a couple weeks later we had a mini heat wave and this thing filled up in just a couple days! I noticed there’s less fly activity around the coop and every day it’s filled more and moreThe water inside will evaporate so you do have to keep topping it off. I’m able to hit it with a hose, without having to take it down and unscrew it, via the holes the flies go in.The top unscrews easily for bait changes or emptying. The bait it comes with smells terrible (but it’s good at attracting flies!) keep in mind this isn’t something you’d want too close to where you plan on relaxing or having company because it does smell bad, and it will attract flies to the area.It also doesn’t come with a way to hang it. There’s a hole but no string or wire so it’s up to you to figure out what you want to usePros-great at attracting and catching flies!-easy unscrew lid for emptying and refilling-reusable!Cons-stinks! Can’t keep it on a patio if you want to be outside-does need to be topped up regularly, especially on hot days-doesn’t come with material to hang it

Disappointed.
After reading the reviews of this product, my spouse and I were stoked to try it out.We live next to a cow pasture on just under an acre of land with two poop-machine dogs that have free reign of the entire yard. Black flies are a P R O B L E M. Specifically, around our back patio, making it so we cannot enjoy our back yard without being accosted (if we don't have our traps up).We have used a different brand for years now, and they work, but they're expensive in comparison to this product. We received the package on 7/3/2023 and immediately hung it up as instructed. The smell is not as bad as people have said (or maybe the lack of smell was our first clue we received a dud), and the instructions on hanging were exactly like the other brand we used in the past. It was nearly night so we didn't anticipate much, but over the next two days we didn't notice any change in our backyard. We checked periodically on the trap, found no flies, and did as instructed and agitated the mixture again and left it to its own devices.Cue an entire week later and what is pictured is what we have. A few earwigs, a tiny moth, and one or two drain flies from our septic.Meanwhile, the other product has been put up and within these last three days they are full of flies.Unfortunately, returning the product isn't worth the effort of draining, boxing, and dropping off at a UPS store.
