Kodiak Furniture Phoenix Futon Set, Full, Barbados

We ordered this for our new room because we needed seating but also wanted the bed for when our kids and families are here.I am a 71 year old woman and I put it all together except needed help to put the bed frame on the base.It came short one piece of hardware and one side had a split in the wood. I emailed the company on a Friday night and they responded first thing Monday morning. They sent the replacements right away. I am so impressed with the company! They were quick, courteous and very helpful. And I really appreciate that.Back to the futon. We had everyone here for Thanksgiving and it worked out great! It is comfortable and looks great in the room. It was easy to put together and is a sturdy piece of furniture. It has been slept on and they slept well and found it comfortable.My only complaint is that although it is easy for one person to make it into a bed, one person cannot make it back into a couch. It takes a second person to lift the back to get it started so you can transform it into a couch.

It does take two people to pull it into a bed and back into a couch. Otherwise it is a really nice couch and comfortable bed!!! The side tables and drawers storage are convenient and amazing. Assembly was so simple but it did take two people to do.

Came in 4 boxes. Assembly wasn't bad at all, construction was good, hardware was good quality. The hardware was even tied to the box with string as a final QC verification. Definitely watch the video The L wrench worked well but if it was trimmed slightly smaller it would have made things quicker. I assembled the whole thing by myself, not sure how long it took, but probably a couple hours as I work slowly and methodically. Nothing difficult about it. I expected the drawers to mount under the frame, they actually sit on wheels under the frame. This works okay for me as It is on carpet but if you have tile this may not work.. More comfortable than I expected, looks good.

I was looking for a sofa for my office that could also turn into a quest room. This fit the bill perfectly. The color was perfect. The mattress is very comfortable for sitting and sleeping. The drawers are an extra bonus to store sheets and mattress protector. Also, the assembly instructions were excellent.

I love this futon. I sleep on this nightly. This is heavy, but it is also sturdy. This arrived in 4 boxes (one box being the drawer set). You can put the drawers together at your leisure as they are on rollers and are not attached. 2 people are ideal for futon assembly. 1 person is fine for drawer assembly. I am short so I recommend pairing this with your favorite ottoman since it seems built for a taller person (unless you are tall). I am able to easily put into the bed position. It is a little harder for me to put into recline or sitting by myself, but possible.

My order shipped quickly and arrived in 4 boxes (main frame, side arms, drawers and mattress). Packaging was good and despite some damage to the boxes, the contents appeared to be unaffected. The following is a review of each component.Frame: Wood finish is satin smooth and pretty. It looks like a higher end piece of furniture instead of an assemble-it-yourself piece. The flip up tables are a great design feature and easy to use. The drawers give the piece a more substantial feel and provide decent storage. Unfortunately, there was a small splinter/chip out of one arm and one piece of the frame back that was missing finish. I assembled it anyway hoping they would be hidden and they are for the most part but IMO imperfections should not be in a final product at this price point. Assembly was straight forward. Most of it can be done with one person (arm assembly needs two). Any difficulty was a result of not reading the directions carefully. The frame feels sturdy but creaks when someone sits down (in couch position). That’s a bit annoying.Mattress: There are major issues here. The cover on mine was misaligned and the piping that should follow along the corner edges was all over the place (on one end it is a good 1/2” onto the face of the mattress and elsewhere had rolled to the opposite face). The mattress is tufted with no way to adjust the cover even if you could heft it around (it is heavy!). The second issue is that the loose cotton padding inside had shifted, leaving one end with bulges and the other end with virtually no padding at all (just a big hollow space). Again, no way to fix this. I have an older innerspring futon mattress from DHP that is a little worn but still comfortable and when I unzip its cover I find an interior cover encasing high density foam that surrounds the springs. When I unzip the Kodiak mattress cover, loose batting tumbles out. There is nothing keeping it where it belongs. One plus I will give for the mattress is the hinge feature. It does make it easy to fold into a couch position and seems to solve the problem of slippage. It is also firm and comfortable to sit and lay on.Bottom line: I love the idea of this set but am disappointed in the end result. For 700.00, I expected “perfect” not something with defects that apparently skipped quality control. It took 3 attempts to contact the seller (OJ Commerce) using Amazon’s convoluted messaging system before I heard back and all they could offer was a discount to offset the damage. Although the discount is appreciated it still leaves me with a defective set. One bright note: when I didn’t hear back from the seller I called the manufacturer to see if they could help. They responded immediately and without question offered to send replacement parts free of charge. I am giving this set 3 stars. It would have been 5 if I had received a defect free product.Buying furniture online is a gamble. Returns are cumbersome or near impossible so the customer bears the burden of fixing damage or accepting it as is. The most you can hope for (beyond getting defect free merchandise) is excellent customer service. In my case Kodiak outshone the seller (OJ Commerce). I hope this review helps someone thinking of ordering.

This Futon Frame is by far my best purchase of the year. It is a little involved to assemble, took me about 3 hours, but hands down a beautiful addition to my apartment. Love it! Ed T

I wasn't sure how this couch would turn out based on the reviews. It's a firm futon, but we like that because that means the mattress won't collapse in a year. As other reviews said, the drawers aren't attached to the frame, but since we have the couch on a rug, it slides in and out smoothly. Two-person assembly makes things go faster, and honestly, I've found it necessary to have two people to move it into the other positions as it's difficult, being a small woman, to move it myself.
