Bombs Stinging Nettles and Doodlebugs
The author transported me back in time with this excellent, emotional, factual and readable book. I especially liked the way he combined facts of the war, with the emotions he experienced at the time. History books explains about the details of the war, but the author made me feel the reality of the war and how it affected the emotions of a ten year old boy, as well as having to cope with the everyday emotions of "growing up". The author conveyed humour and sadness as his journey took him into puberty and young adulthood. I certainly felt, after finishing the book, how important the little things in life are, how brave those men and women were, and felt very humble to everything we experience in todays society. This book should be in every school in the country!

Bombs, Stinging nettles and doodlebugs
This is a wonderful book, it reminds me in some ways of 'Angela's Ashes' telling a true story through the eyes of a ten year old boy. The author has to grow up but also accepts all the incredible changes with the innocence of youth with humour thrown in. At times it seems amazing how the young can adapt to situations which are difficult to imagine in our 'safe' world nowadays. It tells the story of human nature, how as a nation Britain stood together and at the end it makes you feel a much 'richer' person ready to look at your fellow man with more empathy.Brilliant!!! Highly recommended.

Bombs, Stinging Nettles and Doddlebugs
This book is absolutely entrancing. The author managed to place me in the air raid shelter with him & his mother. The emotions as well as the fun in those days was brought across in paper very well. How anyone can remember their lfe as a young boy so vividly makes me realise how thousands of young children took the war in their stride & how brave they were.Well done Mr Goymer.
